I know I'm setting myself up for the flame job of the century, but my curiosity has gotten the better of me. Here's the story:
Back in May of 1979, my Family and my girlfriend were on our way back from my sisters graduation in Ft Wayne, IN. About halfway between Gas City and Kokomo we all spotted an object that looked like a flying wing off to our left. The thing was massive, about 1/4 of a mile in width! We were traveling at 55mph and when the thing flew overhead we did not clear the width before it flew by. It was about 500ft over the car and it made no sound at all! The underside had four translucent panels; two under each wing. They were blue, red, green and yellow. You could see twinkling lights thru the translucnce. I thought it was interesting that the panels were all primary colors. The thing was so huge, and appeared to be moving so slow, that it should have fallen out of the sky! When it went over us it did a turn, not like a banked turn of an aircraft, but it simply stopped and pivoted before taking off like a bat out of hell. Even when it accelerated from zero to ? mph, it made no noise. My Father, Mother, Grandmother and girl;friend all saw this. We were all sober. We did not report it due to obvious reasons.(Who wants to be known as a crackpot?) I have had to ask my Dad every few years if he remembers this, and of course he does, but sometimes the whole event seemed so sureal as to confuse it with a dream.
Again, I know there will be the usuall smart comebacks and jibes, and I have already donned my Nomex suit, but I am serious-this really did happen!
I guess besides getting this off my chest, I was wondering if anyone else has seen anything like this? I don't mean "strange lights in the sky", I mean has anyone ever been close enought to actually see a ship as me and my family did? If I did not have wittnesses, I would never make such a post. But the facts remain: WE ARE NOT ALONE!!!! Tim
Meh. I strongly believe that there is another life form out there. We also have to take into account that the US HAS had planes that look EXACTLY like the "circular" Ufos we see in all this sci-fi stuff. Avro Car is one of them.
So clearly we HAVE had airplanes\hovering vehicles that resembles our classic "saucer" ufo, however like the one you are talking about, there are countless videos, recording, and what not about other encounters with UFOS. Many even from army bases.
Even Germany in WW2 was working on saucer vehicles and blimps and what not.
Here in Georgia, in Marietta, at Dobbins Air force Base (2004), there were US Army F-16 pilots who spotted a UFO and got it on film, but was never released. On the ground there was a film taken which is here http://www.genwi.com/play/820123
Personally, I believe that there might be some little aliens (or big aliens for that matter) that might be checking us out, but the question is, why haven't they done anything? Well, they might have already made contact with our government, but of course that would never be told to us. Anyone who has worked with the government and has mouthed off about the secrets is always put in jail and gets a straight-jacket thrown on him.
I say, either they need to land and show themselves to everyone, or GTFO of our atmosphere, or they can hover over the skies like in the movie "Signs" so that we can get better pictures.
There are other famous reports that you should look up, most of them are around army bases (at least the ones that are remotely believable). I remember one people were patrolling a base in a forest (US) and they saw strange lights in the woods and went there, (this was all being recorded with audio, you can look it up and listen to it, it is quite freaky) but the dogs start barking and break free and run off...of course the soldiers\scouters (about six?) continue to walk towards it. They radio in to tell everyone about it while they are going towards it, so everyone else rushes out, within a couple minutes they get to the group, all six of them had 3rd degree burns all over their body, and there was a circular burn mark in the ground and high amounts of radiation, the soldiers claimed they approached the ship when the lights were dim and then it lifted up and they saw a blindling light, that is of course weeks after they were in the hospital since they were found lying on the ground. I think the militaries of many governments make all kinds of wacky shapes that fly in order to conduct research. If you've seen one, cool. But that's all I'll ever chalk it up to.

The Germans had designs in 1942 and the U.S. and Northrop had flying wings in 1946-47 and then when the modern B2 bomber came out. It could have been something in design that we haven't seen yet.

I understand your sceptacism, I was too before this event. But this was not a "Typical" flying wing off-course. It was at least ONE THOUSAND feet wide. It made NO SOUND 500 feet above our heads. It PIVOTED AT A COMPLTE STOP. It went from zero to slightly less then subsonic in less than one second. (No sonic boom) If any goverment on this planet had these capabilities they would now dominate all air power. This thing was close enough to hit with a 22, we all saw it plain as day and we all agreed that it was not of this Earth! I know you won't change your opinion, I should have been from Missouri-the Show Me state. But remember me when and if you do ever see one!

Savagex25: Thanks for your open mind. Here at work they have Utube blocked so I could not see the vid. Trust me when I say that there is some other form of inteligent life out there, this craft was too close to misidentify as anything else.
