First, I am about to drive from Memphis to Northwest Arkansas. The road conditions are pretty crappy. I haven't driven my FJ in 4 wheel drive in a while. Should I at all be worried about kicking it into 4 x 4? Any thoughts?? I am going to be on the highway the whole way and will keep it in 2 hi unless I see some issues.
Second, any Arkansas guys out there? I am driving to Little Rock to pick up my fiancee who is driving from Hot Springs. Does anyone have any driving reports for either of us? My dad has been all over 540 today and says it is fine, so I am just worried about the other sections of the trip.

First theing to remember when driveing in snow is 4x4 is that you can start and go easy but you can not stop any better then the two wheel vehicles. Keep your speed down and you should have no problems. Do not use 4x4 unless it is needed because it disables the esc or what ever it is called.

I grew up in MI and have drivin in the snow many many times. From my experience I have never needed 4WD while driving on a highway. Also, I second the fact that you don't stop any better with 4WD in fact probably worse.

I am in NWA, had no idea the weather was bad on I-40. The weather is just cold and windy here, no precipitation on I-540. I doubt you will run into any trouble that the FJ can't handle.
My FJ just got out of of a three month stay at the shop, so the first time I kicked into 4x4, the tranny system started to make horrendous noise. I instantly went back into 2wd. My buddy told me not to worry, it was a little dry and rusty. I went back in 4wd, the noise started again, lasted for 20-30 seconds, then it went back to normal, and never gave me another problem that weekend. You should, according to the owners manual, run it in 4hi, and 4lo for a few minutes every month. I hope someone can elaborate more.
