India-Owned Jag and Land Rover

From the people that just brought you the world's least expensive automobile:

MUMBAI (Reuters) - India's Tata Motors Ltd is preparing for "an outright purchase" of Ford Motor Co's Jaguar and Land Rover luxury brands, against an earlier plan for a majority stake, the Economic Times said on Wednesday.

"Ford has decided not to retain a minority stake, as it is convinced about the future development of these two brands in the hands of the Tatas,," the newspaper said, citing sources close to the development.

Re: India-Owned Jag and Land Rover

Bad for whom?

1. Tata?
2. Ford?
3. Land Rover and Jaguar?

I dunno. I think it could be good for all 3.

I'm here in India right now. You see a lot of Land Rovers on the roads here. And Tata is like the GM of India--probably has 30% of the domestic market. But until now, nothing really upscale.

Given the Indian economy's growth, it's just a matter of time before they'll need more upscale product. This could be perfect timing.

We had a similar discussion about two weeks ago when the initial offer was made - see Land Rover and Jaguar to India
Interesting discussion to say the least!
