I need some advice-PLEASE!

Ok, my laptop died before Xmas. It's a Mac iBook G4. I took it in and was told it was the harddrive. They replaced the harddrive and charged me $560.00.
I brought my laptop home...turned it on...IT DIDN'T WORK!

I takw the laptop back...they tell me they are sorry and they will fix it FREE OF CHARGGE! I am given a loaner laptop (which I'm using). Now, I dropped my laptop off a week before Xmas...it's now January 30th!

I just recieved a call...."just checking to see how your laptop is running?"

uhhh.....you have my laptop!

"opps...I'm embarrased. Let me transfer you to repairs"

I'M FUMING NOW!

So....someone takes my call and informs me that OPPS...they just found out my logic board is broken. And they want to charge me!

So....I lost it! They replace my harddrive and charge me for that...my laptop doesn't work...I bring it back. I'm told I will not be charged for the repair because THEY messed up!

So....the guy is stumbling now. I told him that I'm taking the harddrive they took out (which I got back from them) and haven't it looked at. If it is working and they replaced something I didn't need...that I will NOT be paying for a logic board! THEY will replace if free of charge!

I'm so angry right now. FUMING!

I need advice...what can I do. This is just ridiculous!

I don't even know how they could've charged you $500+ for a HD. It's so easy to install...

Get your old HD and your money back. Go somewhere else. Maybe your HD is not even broken. What's a "logic board"? Motherboard?

Make noise. Where did you take it?

Get your laptop back. Ask for a full refund on everything and stand firmly.

If what you are saying is true, make a case for yourself. That's horrible.

If its best buy or one of these places just be noisy and talk with a manager. They can afford to make things right.

You just about have to disassemble the entire computer. Its the most complicated HDD swap I have done in a computer.

Sounds like you have the right idea. They should have checked it before giving it back to you, so I would make them repair it at no charge to you. Keep going up the chain of command until you talk to someone that will do it. The key is to tell them that you are angry and upset, but be nice and respectful (trust me, I was in computer sales and repair, it will get you further than yelling). Also, explain that they "lost" your laptop and you were without it for longer than necessary.

Or, since they replaced a part that didn't need repairing and you paid for it, I would make them give you a "credit" of 560 and that "should" cover the charges, therefore no more money out your pocket!

I have the receipts and the harddrive. I literally brought it home and it didn't work. I brought it back and wasn't even really upset at the time that it wasn't working...they said they were sorry and they'd fix...no charge.

Now they call me to say it's the logic board. I wasn't mad till they said they were charging me. They told me they would fix my laptop at no charge!

I told them I understand mistakes happen.

Now, I've gone into b!tch mode because they call me to ask how my laptop is working? And then transfer me to someone who says it's the logic board and they are charging me for it.

I have the harddrive they took out...I'm taking it to another place to have it looked at. If it's working...I seriously will be angry...ok P!SSED!

I apologized to the girl on the phone for being upset...but come on....what do they expect?

I'm not paying for the repair! I refuse to! They told me they'd fix it free of charge.

I have their laptop and I'm not giving it back till mine is repaired. I paid cash for the repair and they have no credit card information from me.

I would go and take my laptop back from them right now and demand my money back...but then i'm left with no working laptop. My job requires me to be on my laptop all day.

I need a bloody drink.

I've heard plantfeedback.com is a good place to let companies know of bad customer service. People usually get responded to by a company representative to "smooth over" the situation.

Is this at an Apple Store? I've always had good service there. Complaining in person at Apple always works. The treat me like gold. And that guy is right hard drives are cheap and an easy install.

Nope...I'm kicking myself for not taking it to the Apple store...I would have had my laptop back and be a happy customer. I took it to a place called A1A Computing they only deal with Macs.

I brought it in originally because my laptop kept freezing, the mouse wouldn't move sometimes and some programs wouldn't open. I was told it was the harddrive. So...they replaced it.

There is no way in h*ll they checked to see if it was operating once they installed the new harddrive. I took it home and turned it on...and the mouse froze immediately. I took it back right away. This was a Dec 21st.

It is now the 30th of January and they just figured out it's the logic board? It took that long? Something is not making sense here.

I'm going to check out that site MissFJ posted and see if I can get anything accomplished. I'm obviously frustrated.
