Re: Romney is Gone

Personally I think he looked too much like Ted Dansen from Cheers.

I will now back McCain because

1) he will appoint constructionist judges (we have 6 over 60yrs old right now)
2) he will not allow failure in Iraq
3) he will stop the wasteful spending (and hopefully restrict entitlements)
4) he hopefully has learned that Americans want the border secured!
5) he will protect the 2nd ammendment
You have a lot more faith in him than I do; his voting record on some of these issues is not good.

"The government consists of a gang of men exactly like you and me. They have, taking one with another, no special talent for the business of government; they have only a talent for getting and holding office. Their principal device to that end is to search out groups who pant and pine for something they can't get and to promise to give it to them. Nine times out of ten that promise is worth nothing. The tenth time is made good by looting A to satisfy B. In other words, government is a broker in pillage, and every election is sort of an advance auction sale of stolen goods." - H. L. Mencken

Re: Romney is Gone

It's hard to belive we are down to 3 candidates that are so underwhelming...

Hillary? ya fuggin' kiddin' me? Life's a beyotch... why would I vote for one?

Obama? Stunning moment on Hannity & Combs a few nights ago... They had a focus group (aka "10 people badly in need of $25") of dem supporters raving like lunatics about this dude.... The high praise was effusive... Then, Hannity asks: "Can any of you folks name one accomplishment?" silence "Aw c'mon" Hannity continued "name just one program, one primary cause, one major bill sponsored, etc.????" friggin' silence----- Then, one of the droids starts saying "Well, he brings us hope...." and they all start trippin' over themselves once again to start talking about "WHAT a great speaker he IS...." ..............sigh......

McCain? Don't hate him. Definitely don't love him. Career legislator. Loves big gov't. I suppose anybody's better than what the dems are selling. He could put himself in my good graces by naming Giuliani his running mate.

I wonder if Bloomberg enters the race as a 3rd party candidate? Could be interesting...

This really isn't much of a revelation, and is in fact something that Obama himself says again and again when he speaks... that things happen from not from the top down but from the bottom up. The whole point is that ordinary people becoming engaged is what we need. Too many live in apathy. A true leader isn't the guy who can do everything himself, but the one who can get everybody around him to give a damn and do something.

Just my $0.02

Re: Romney is Gone

first, i liked fred. but, his heart wasn't in it. then mitt romney became my guy. then the so-called, conservative side of the party gets divided up between him and mike huckabee so neither are viable candidates. this paves the way for moderate john mccain to grab the nomination. i guess for the good of the country and the good of the party, i have to swallow really, really hard and support the nominee.

my only hope is clinton and obama slug it out all the way to the convention in denver and spill blood all over the floor of the hall before they finally have their nominee. i then hope it's hillary for the dems, who at that point will be broke and beaten down from the floor fight at the convention, and barack is too upset to accept the second spot on the "dream ticket". she will then become the most polarizing figure in all of politics bringing every republican extant (and even some conservative white male democrats) to the polls to vote against her in november.

it's a plan that might work. might be wishful thinking. but, then again, might be fun to watch it unfold.

Re: Romney is Gone

One of my best friends is very tight with Romney and he's bummed since it doesn't look like he'll be getting that ambassadorship to Switzerland any more.

Been there. Done that. You do remember the great Jimmy Carter experiment I assume?

Remember how well that went?

Then again, it did lead to a great Conservative revolution that lowered taxes, won the cold war, re-established our country after Viet Nam, Watergate, the Iranian hostage situation, led to the greatest economic boom in our history and I could go on. Maybe (in the long run) Obama would bring about a galvanizing and re-energizing of America by way of a 1980-style Conservative renaissance?
