Almost caught a pervert last night ....

I'm sound asleep and my 15 yr old step daughter bursts into our room, crying and hysterical. She tells us that she was in our back yard trying to get a cat off the roof and some guy was IN OUR YARD WATCHING HER! Wife takes daughter and heads for the back patio to see what is going on. I put on some shorts, pocket my .38 and head out front door to sneak around the side. I get to side of patio and ask daughter exactly where this guy was. I'm told he was in the dark corner of property, near a road that goes next to house. I figure, well I'll go down there and make sure all is clear, just to settle the girls nerves. I walk to back corner (no fence) and wander around a little, not seeing anything but it is very dark. I go out into street and walk along side of back neighbors property. That is when I hear some leaves crackling in neighbors yard. I slowly back into the shadows and wait for my eyes to adjust, hand on the weapon at all times. Suddenly he breaks cover, hauling ass along neighbors house. I draw and take a bead, but he hits the road and sprints away from me. There are other houses around, and knowing that as long as he is running away I can not legally pop him, so I just yell "You better run faster punk because I still have sights on you! faster ! FASTER!" He rounds the curve and disappears. I'm not about to start a foot race with some kid at zero dark thirty so I let him go. I thought about putting a few rounds into the dirt, just to encourage him to run faster, but decided against it. Sheriff's deputy pointed out that had I fired a few off, perhaps they'd have some DNA left on the road, dripping out of his pants leg.

Damn laws. Why do perverts have rights? Even criminals in jail think perverts are the worst. I admire your restraint, I'd ahve popped him in the a$$ or something. Just enough for him to get caught and visit the clink where he'd be justly punished.

Main concern was actually that I could miss him and hit someones house. I was less concerned about the laws, even though I was aware of them. If I'd just broken the law, killing a pervert as he was fleeing, I'd have taken the consequences but could not risk innocents.

It's really best that you didn't actually shoot the guy. Too much danger of the system turning on you and ruining both you and your family. Sad yes, but true all too often. It's probably exactly what you think, but it could possibly be otherwise. Could you tell anything about the guy? Kids can/will do some wacky stuff. I have a daughter too and I would hate to kill a pervert and discover he was the big lanky next door kid that had a crush on my daughter. It's a tough call.. JMO Ron

He also informed me that they've had some issues with prowlers, and have sometimes found little "puddles" where they were watching through peoples windows. I *will* be doing some midnight "sneek and peeks" around my house now. If I catch him in my yard again I'm going to be testing that new Florida law about shooting first.

Kids have the internet and all the porn they can handle. This guys is twisted and I think it only builds. One day he is spanking it to your daughter, next week he is stalking her, then eventually grows old with that. Whats next? Ya, see the cycle. Should have popped him before he hurts someone, and gave the neighbourhood some peace of mind. id award you with a metal of honour.

If they leave "puddles" there's DNA and I'd be sure the detective got the sample. Maybe you should check that dark little corner where he was standing....

The fact that most concerns me and the deputy, was that the guy did NOT leave until I flushed him out. He had the opportunity after daughter saw him and ran inside, and again when wife and daughter returned to patio and started turning on all the lights. But he stayed there in the dark watching them until he realized I was about to catch him, and then he hauled ass. Sheriff's deputy also confirmed that if he had came AT me instead of running away, I would have been OK to put him down.
