Re: Project for Woodworkers

Here's another one...but it's not nearly as cool as the first one. Same sort of concept, different mechanism.

Try adding a zero on to the the end of your numbers. Having worked for a custom high-end furniture designer in my college years, if that first table is built properly with high quality woods and veneers, it would easily go for $30K...the price of your stock FJ

It can sometimes be hard to appreciate the amount of engineering that goes into something like this, especially if is it designed to last for generations....

Re: Project for Woodworkers

OK, I'm here.

First off, the Fletcher Capstan table was originally designed for a yacht and as Decidion mentioned, with the engineering involved, it would be verrrrrry expensive. Fletcher also had it patented. The construction, fit, finish, and materials must all be absolutely excellent to pull it off.

Compared to the Fletcher table, that "puzzle" table is a joke, though if you had never seen the Fletcher I guess it would seem kinda cool.

I know how to make the tops open and close and how to achieve the lift/drop of the center unit but it would take some real brain-storming to determine how to make them work together. With a project like this, there would be far more time involved with engineering and prototyping than with construction of the final table. With that being said, and do not consider this a firm quote, I'm pretty confident I could knock out a quantity of one for less than 25K. Who's first ?
