I Need Your Ebay Advice

So I bought an windshield for my Harley. $265 for a $350 (retail) windshield from a guy in WA. He labled it as a flat $25 shipping cost. I was the winning bidder. The next day the seller emailed me and stated that UPS doesn't ship ground to Alaska (BS #1), then stated he had to ship it USPS (Great! It's always cheaper through them.) Then stated it cost him $65 for shipping and wanted me to Paypal an extra $40 for the difference.

I emailed him back that before he decided to spend an extra $40 of my money, he ought to check with me first, and that UPS does ship ground, and that his auction had a flat shipping rate, and offered to split the difference with him.

The only repsonse I got was that he understood, sorry for the confusion, and that he would specify no AK buyers in the future.

...10 days later, I get the package. The windshield is as he described, however, the USPS postage stamp says $26...and change. So where is his extra $40 he was claiming he paid? He never took me up on the offer to split the difference.

Should I flaim him on the feedback and call his BS? I'm not a happy camper about being lied to.

What would you do?

Re: I Need Your Ebay Advice

Depends on how mad you are.

What I usually do if I get a satisfactory item with less than satisfactory service is either leave it neutral or positive, but either way, leave a notation like "great item, thanks for changing your mind about screwing me on shipping" or something to that effect so that other people know to watch out for that kind of thing. Or, if it makes you feel any better, email him and just let him know that you are on to his BS. It may not change anything later, but usually I feel better getting it off my chest. Just my $.02.

Ebay has a star rating system in place. So, if shipping is outrageously high you can leave 1 star for shipping price. I know this doesn't really help you but it aids other buyers in there decision to purchase from the seller in the future.

Re: I Need Your Ebay Advice

Since you paid with paypal, you should open a dispute with them. If they feel he did rip you off, they will pull the funds from his account and refund it to yours.
This happened to me once when I got an item that was not as described.

Good Luck

Re: I Need Your Ebay Advice

Call him out. Give him a negative rating. Definitely open a dispute if you ended up paying the extra money he wanted.

I hope you don't take this the wrong way but, with your signature at the bottom I would think you would be the first to want to do something.

I've been told there are 3 types of people,
Those that does something about it.
Those that talk about doing something about it.
Those that had no idea anything was going on.

You decide what type of person you are.

Touche my friend. No offense taken, I guess I meant it as more of a rhetorical question to prompt more feedback.

I did not wind up paying the extra money. He easily backed off once I confronted him about it. The item is definitely what I paid for and I'm happy, but if he tried to rip me off then he is probably ripping others off as well and needs to be dimed out.

Re: I Need Your Ebay Advice

Maybe it was an honest mistake. I have sold over 1000 items on Ebay and deal with USPS and UPS all the time. One wrong click on the shipping catulater can make a big difference in cost.[com.resd.size weight] If the product was right then I would let it go. Positive

Re: I Need Your Ebay Advice

I wouldn't leave negative feedback before they leave feedback for you. In my experiences with feedback and ebay (my count is close to 300 with 10 years of being a member) is that if it's a bad auction for whatever reason they will possibly retaliate weather you deserve it or not.....if you happen to leave negative feedback first, chances are they will be more likely to leave the same. It is super difficult to have it removed. Ebay's customer service is all done through email with some of maybe being automated. their guideline is really strict therefore the best chance of having any feedback removed is you both have to agree for it to be withdrawn....you might be better to try contacting the seller with the issues and it probably wouldn't hurt to contact ebay with your complaint....and if you paid through paypal.....file with them too....good luck and hopefully some of my bad experiences will help out!!
