houses in boston suburb

I find that many medium-priced houses in boston area has huge lot. Say 1/2 and up. This kind of lot size is signicantly bigger than most communities in CA. Again, I am refering to middle-class commnities.

Yet, I dont remember seeing any of those houses has a 3-car garage. Considered the big lot and the New England wheather, I would think a larger garage should be a no-brainer. I am sure there are similar % of population in New England that are into boating, trail rigs, ATVs.etc and prefer to store their toys indoor . I am very curious as to why are larger garges or some kind large work shops are not that common??? Is there any town law or orandance that prohibit this type of build up in the property??

Re: houses in boston suburb

I hear you. In my house search around Boston a 3-car garage is becoming more of a distant hope than a requirement.

The suburban towns around Boston that tend to have larger properties also tend to have a longer property-line-to-dwelling minimum distance requirement. But the reason you don't see them much even on the larger properties probably has more to do with the conservative look and feel of the homes here.
