Re: Ask A Police Officer Thread

Cops get pulled over too, and more times than not we get tickets too. And I agree, it can ruin your day! But, without traffic enforcement, it wouldn't be safe to leave your house.

oh! and another question. Has anyone ever out run you or someone in the department. I know its hard to beat the radio but surely someone has gone by so fast its impossible to keep up right? Whats the max speed of a cop car?

Some people get away. Most do not. But if you run, you WILL go to jail tired.

Max speed of a Ford Crown Vic Police Interceptor is 150 MPH. I've never gone that fast, as I am afraid I'll lose the light bar on the freeway at those speeds.

The actual speed of a cop car (although generally faster than the average Yugo) is actually kind of a moot point since "due regard" for the public safety takes mucho priority over catching anyone.

Most departments have since gone to a policy of letting the speed demons go (for the time being), rather than putting the public, the officer and even the violator in harm's way during a high-speed pursuit.

Re: Ask A Police Officer Thread

Dave, if you have a radar detector in the auto (it's legal in LA, I think), and you get pulled, will the officer give you a harder fine because of the detector? Nate seems to think that detectors will get us in more trouble here.

I did take mine down, months ago, and have a clean record, but I used to use the detector to help remind me to watch my speed.
