Here are a few pics of my new (to me, used lens) Nikon 35-70mm f/2.8D AF Zoom Nikkor Lens. It does a damn good job at portraits as well as the macro function it has as well. I picked this up on Ebay a few months ago for under $200. (Typically a $480 lens new)
The 3rd photo, with the littel purple blooms, those flowers have the diameter of the thickness of a crayon (I had to lay down on the ground to get that close to them)
These are 1600 resolution (Full sized photos look much better)
Please be kind, I'm a sports photographer first. Nature is not my normal subject matter.
very nice....i am trying to teach myself some photography as well but my equipment is nothing near yours. Great work....I love it.

Very nice...glad you got a great deal on the lens...last time I tried to buy a lens of ebay(wanted to convert for UV photog), the listing said it was perfect condition and it had mold in it...Had to fight it with paypal and lost my shipping money, because I had to pay to ship it back...
I plan on getting a Nikkor 105mm Macro, but not from ebay ...
It seems this forum has a lot of pros and hobbiests, wonder how many of us will be at the Summit?

Thanks Swi!
Now that I've shot with it more, I've noticed that good focus falls off severely from the focus point at a low f-stop which I'm not happy about with this lens. (For the waterfall shot, I used a slow shutter speed to blur the water.)
I think that this lens is not all that good for macro application. It's probably my eyesite too, its not the best. Either way, the bokeh is dramatic with this lens.
Does anyone have recommendations for good macro lenses? I use Nikon stuff. I don't want to spend more than $1000 though...

Try raising the aperture ... Sometimes going to low when so close causes only part of the target to be in focus/sharp...I have a 1.4G lens and if I am close to a persons face, focus on their forehead, then their ears and nose tip will be out of focus.
