Airline Customer Service at It's Finest

NEW YORK, May 12 (Reuters) - A New York man who says he was denied a seat on a five-hour jetBlue flight and was instead told to "hang out" in the plane's bathroom has sued the airline for $2 million, saying he suffered "extreme humiliation."

When Gokhan Mutlu arrived to check in for a jetBlue (JBLU.O: Quote, Profile, Research) flight from San Diego to New York in February he was told the flight was full, according to the lawsuit filed in New York State Supreme Court.

But Mutlu was allowed to board after a jetBlue flight attendant agreed to give up her seat and travel in an airline employee "jump seat." It was not clear in the lawsuit whether the flight attendant was working.

However 90 minutes into the flight, the pilot told Mutlu the flight attendant was uncomfortable and he would have to give up his seat and "hang out" in the bathroom for the remainder of the flight, the lawsuit said.

The pilot "became angry at (Mutlu's) reluctance" and said Mutlu "should be grateful for being onboard," the lawsuit said. When Mutlu volunteered to sit in the "jump seat," he was told it was reserved for airline personnel.

At one point, the airplane experienced turbulence and Mutlu sat on the toilet seat without a seat belt, causing him "tremendous fear," the lawsuit said.

JetBlue was not immediately available for comment. (Reporting by Edith Honan, editing by Michelle Nichols and Todd Eastham)
Well, if the turbulence scared the $hit out of him, at least he was in the right place - begging for that to be said.

I can't believe this story. Crazy.

I wish i could find a dumbass excuse to sue for $2 million.

You just went from SD to NY for FREE! I'd sit in the dang cargo bay if it was for free.

Re: Airline Customer Service at It's Finest

What you omitted from this story is that the guy was flying nonrev on a buddy pass. He was going to have to wait for another flight when they tried to accommodate him. So it's not like he paid for a seat and didn't get it.

I'd like to beat the guy with a big stick. Fools like this may think they are trying to prove a point or something but all they are really doing is costing the rest of us normal folks lots of money. Some days I wish more and more that I could be a vigilante, change my middle name to Bronson, and clean up this mess of a country.

Gokhan Mutlu=Douch BAG!

I hate people like this, just like the lady that sued McDonald's for the coffee being too hot (and won) when she spilled it on herself and suffered mild burns.

GGGRRRRR!!! Settle Poppa settle Wooosaww!

It's still not as bad as Judge from DC who sued his neighborhood drycleaners for millions of dollars for his lost pants.

Re: Airline Customer Service at It's Finest

it is against FAA regs for a passenger to not be in an actual seat with a seat belt, regardless whether he is on buddypass or not.

Re: Airline Customer Service at It's Finest

In America, if you lose your case....you’re not responsible for any court costs.

That is the problem!

This country is horrible for people tying up the court system over the most ridiculous claims.

And seriously, watch tv and every 5 minutes there is some lawyer talking about his firm and injury claims.

But no one wants to carry the Tort Reform torch because they're afraid they'd get sued by the lawyers!

No kidding!

Lawyers scare me...especially after living in L.A. They party and do more drugs than anyone (watch me get sued for slander for saying that )
