I am using the Nokia E90, which is a little big but i really like the things i can do with the phone. The iphone was good, but it lacked some feature that all new cell phone should have. I also think the new blackberry is cool. I think there is a new one coming out in the states, but it has been out back home ...
I was in the market for a smartphone for a long time. I had my eyes on the iphone, but after trying the google phone, it was a very easy choice. The google phone is AWESOME! Great interface, fast, and open source. It's also cheaper. The slideout keyboard is a blessing. There are so many great apps for it. You can also use wifi when it's available. I've gotten it for the wife, but now I'm using it whenever I can.

Awesome phone. Its amazing what it can do, and its too bad its not advertised like the N series.
Oh yeah, forgot about the G1. I like the idea, but Im thinking of holding out for a future "G2".
I had the iphone (1st gen) but hated it and went back to my old samsung black jack. While the apps on the new iphone 3g is nice, I still prefer a non touch screen smart phone. Plus I use the black jack as a modem on my laptop when i'm out camping. (the iphone at the time wasn't 3g and couldn't/didn't know how to you it as my internet connection to my laptop.) But who knows, if really wanted to, I just might get a touchscreen phone but it would be a iphone hater type of phone. Theres just way better phones out there that beats the iphone hands down but you have to pay the price. The Nokia N96 is a good phone and has a powerful processor, the sony xperia x1 is a new phone also. Even the HTC touch pro looks good (sprint and verizon has the rights to this phone and is rebadged.) But then again you will have to pay top dollars to get one of these. Hope I helped you a little and just wanted to broaden you to more options.

Nokias have had my attention for a long time due to their ease, reliability, reception, OPENNESS (S60 is brimming with software), and features for the dollar. GPS, WIFI, second to none camera (3,5MP, though I believe samsung is the new leader with the 8MP camera), everything. So, Id recommend the N series, and E series such as the E71, E71x, N96, N95 8gb, N81, etc. But, the Sony X1 is looking mighty impressive for the dollar, even if its running the debatable winmo interface. Anything HTC is also very good. Then theres the iphone, which may be lacking in the features department, but certainly makes up for it in terms of ease and support (try taking some of the gray-market nokias for help... it isnt happening. Heck, even their store only models dont have support from ATT/T-mo).
