We first learned of this in the newpaper last week, gotta love when a company is open with it's employees. Well to be fair the company i hired on with was open but it was bought out last year and now not so much.

Here is today's news article.

Bloomberg.com: Worldwide
I saw that headline earlier today on msnbc.com and almost clicked on it.

By buying too much too fast on credit. Lyondell was purchased by Basell forming lyondellbasell which is owned by Access industries and with access being a privately held company it can do pretty much whatever it wants business wise.

Re: My employer filed chapter 11, WOOHOO.

Too many folks are scared by the media. I still say half of this recession is due to the media stating over and over how terrible things are. People don't spend so retail suffers, car sales suffer, etc. Since retail is down, I am aware of a couple of large woodworking/store fixture mfg. companies in Cincy and Indy that are in Chapter 11 as well. I'm not terribly busy either, for the first time in five years. If anyone needs some custom furniture or a millwork/cabinet renovation, now's the time.

There were no obvious signs, in fact two weeks ago we had an officer come tell us that we had plenty cash to cover debts and keep our sites running then last week in the news we hear that the company couldn't make debt payments.

I am an electrical engineer working in power distribution, hopefully i make it through the cuts.
Consider becoming an electrical engineer in the petroleum industry if you get canned... that is, if you don't mind working in a refinery. That industry has done well lately.

I have spent time here and there in our refinery, i am not against working in one. Hopefully that won't be necessary.

Just in case though if anyone is in the Houston area and a bourbon smelling guy in a tan Wheeltoberfest 2008 T-shirt (it has an FJ on it) comes to clean your windows, be kind. I hear those guys can make up to 16 an hour.
You can clean my windows for BEER!

Re: My employer filed chapter 11, WOOHOO.

On a serious note, that sucks bro! Things are still slow for us, and we're doing mostly upstream stuff, if I hear of anything downstream, I've got your number.
