Range Rover mates with a Jeep = That thing. I like it. Neat design and good for Land Rover to branch back into that market segment.
I agree that Toyota could/shold produce a 'soft-top' model to compete with the jeep offerings. But, is the market large enough for Toyota to take on procuring new equipment and retooling the FJ plant to accommodate the new option? Who knows.

Sweet! Looks like I'll have a convertible in my stable before too long. Anything other than a jeep is OK in my book. It won't replace the FJ, just be a nice compliment to it.

They actually never left that segment (check out their UK website). The problem is that the current defender doesn't meet some of the US impact standards - and maybe also the emissions standards (?) So they haven't been imported here for many years.

I went with this strategy already
Honestly the press keep saying they'll be coming out with a new Defender for years and it hasn't happened. The economy sucks and the marketing people at Tata would be smart not to throw money into a project that would have limited sales.

Dosen't the British Millitary have a hand in what goes on with the Defenders?
Not unless they're really really nice to the Indians (Rover is owned by the Indian company Tata now). Maybe they could build them a few more railroads, or put down an insurrection or two for them.

Well done Amity! I was kinda hoping the Hummer HX concept would see the light of day to become a dedicated rock crawler, but now I'm looking at other open air options. Jeep is not and never will be one of them.
