Well there you go!

They are not listed as an official TLCA Chapter on IH8MUD chapter corner, but what the hay, they're local.

The FJ40 has stood the test of time and is one of the best off road platforms ever built.

Re: How tough was the FJ40?

I had a 69',,,40. Chev 350, fuel injected, 700R4 auto, ram steering. 37" MTR's. "Unstoppable" on The Rubicon and all of Moab. Not much of a daily driver though. The FJ gives ya the best of both worlds, for about 8k in mod's....

Re: How tough was the FJ40?

For me I have to flip the coin everytime I go out. Do I take the FJC or the 65 FJ-40 both are great rigs.

The FJ-40 in my opinion is a bullet proof rig that as long as you feel you can do it it will take you there.

Re: How tough was the FJ40?

In high school in the early 70's on of my running buddies had an FJ-40.
Despite our best efforts we could not kill it. That was one very tough
and indestructable vehicle. When I saw the FJC advertised for the first time.
I took one look and said "Gotta have one."

I now have a black one and really love the fact that the white roof turns a lot of the heat buildup when parked in the Sun in Texas.

Plotting a trip to some mountains, any mountians in the near future.

I am having a blast with the FJC and so is my wife!

Re: How tough was the FJ40?

Never owned one, but:
while searching for pics before I ordered my '07, i ran across a pic of an old FJ with a caption that read something like:

"This is a pic i took before we washed it. it took us awhile to cut off all the blackberry vines that had grown around it for 5 years. i replaced the battery, added some gas and it started right up"

Re: How tough was the FJ40?

I grew up with an FJ from 1970 to around 1981 (then we got an FJ 62 which lasted 300,000 miles). Both with winches and mud tires and custom roof racks / bumpers.

I plan to buy an FJ40 in the next few years for my cabin.
