Re: What makes the G-wagon so expensive?

Buy an G550AMG version of the G-Wagen and you're buying a handbuilt, low production luxury SUV with top of the line everything and hp++. Not a huge market thus imported in very low numbers into the USA = Expensive!
Acutally the MB G-wagen has been around since the late 80's in Europe as a 'civilian' vehicle with all sorts of trim and power levels available Used low to mid level diesel and gas models are availalble for the same sort of money you might pay for a decent used Landrover D90 in the UK i.e. USD $10 - 25K for a vehicle 10 to 5 yrs old. Check out eBay Germany for examples.
They are very capable off-road and good towing vehicles. It's a shame you can't legally import one into the USA!
Anyone else think the FJC has taken styling cues from the G-Wagen? I particularly thought this to be the case looking at the Ti (Silver) FJC sitting on my driveway.

yes we actually talked to an importer back in 1984 when the 190E had just come out and my grandfather was looking at one....they've been around for a long time. Much more basic back then, obviously
