Re: What makes the G-wagon so expensive?

Buy an G550AMG version of the G-Wagen and you're buying a handbuilt, low production luxury SUV with top of the line everything and hp++. Not a huge market thus imported in very low numbers into the USA = Expensive!

Acutally the MB G-wagen has been around since the late 80's in Europe as a 'civilian' vehicle with all sorts of trim and power levels available Used low to mid level diesel and gas models are availalble for the same sort of money you might pay for a decent used Landrover D90 in the UK i.e. USD $10 - 25K for a vehicle 10 to 5 yrs old. Check out eBay Germany for examples.

They are very capable off-road and good towing vehicles. It's a shame you can't legally import one into the USA!

Anyone else think the FJC has taken styling cues from the G-Wagen? I particularly thought this to be the case looking at the Ti (Silver) FJC sitting on my driveway.

Very true... I rarely ever see them in my "neck of the woods"
Take another look around Chris, we have 4 or 5 in town ( they are all silver or black so I'm not sure if it's 4 or 5. In a small town like this that's not to comon. Most are owned by the pro BMX riders that moved here because of Dave Mira.

Damn nice rigs- S class inside, serious off road ability outside. compared to the cost when they were imported by Europa they are much less $$ but are still very expensive.

yes we actually talked to an importer back in 1984 when the 190E had just come out and my grandfather was looking at one....they've been around for a long time. Much more basic back then, obviously

Mercedes. Limited production. Heritage. Manufacturing costs. Reputation....

I agree they are overpriced though.

Re: What makes the G-wagon so expensive?

I doubt you'll see someone spending $80k-$104k on a vehicle to take it off road...unless they own an H1. It's all about looking good in LA. That is what they are for.

Re: What makes the G-wagon so expensive?

I saw they guys on Top Gear test one and was very impressed! I think the thing was super charged to boot. The little guy that crashed a while back did the test and all he kept saying was the power is incredbile! the power is incredbile! Does anyone know if he got better? I miss that show!

I don't recall him doing any super offroad challenge stuff but given the price tag I could understand.

I see a couple around these parts but not many.
