like i said earlier, the rubicon is built for mild off-road and thats it really. all the nice features dont exist in them. i was going to get a rubicon and slap on a rubi express 8" long arm kit and some 37"s to start with 4.88 gears and a atlas 4 sp t case, much more later. but i couldnt imagine having to drive a jeep everyday. especially something that big in the snow with that spongy of a suspension. the FJ is a way better all around car, especially for a daily driver.
The Rubi could win the Nobel Peace Prize...it still came in 3d on my list when comparison shopping. Its a hell of a vehicle, just not something I would want to drive everyday.

All-new 2007 Jeep(R) Wrangler Earns Trio of Awards
Friday November 10, 1:24 pm ET
National magazines recognize Wrangler Rubicon for capability, refinement
* Wrangler Rubicon wins 4-Wheel & Off-Road's 2007 4x4 of the Year competition * Four Wheeler names Wrangler Rubicon 2007 Four Wheeler of the Year * Wrangler Unlimited recognized by Popular Science as a 19th Annual "Best of What's New"
Yep, I would bet your right there. Fully expect Toyota to come out with an Off-Road Package...maybe by 08. H3 already does, but they'll be looking to water theirs down even more to get a cheaper version on the road.
Bottom line, competition is a good thing.

Absolutely agree that there's way better daily driver's out there.....I consider the FJ and the H3 much better road-able & comfortable daily driver's. There are a select group that doesn't care about the perfect comfort & smooth ride, couldn't get them out of a Jeep. They actually have come a long way in the ride & comfort in the new JK unlimited 4 Door, still not quite as comfortable as the FJ / H3. Rubi is a stand alone vehicle in today's car market, but you can build all 3 of these to perform superbly off-road. I really think the FJ & H3 will be making more hardcore change's to compete more aggresively in coming years.

Now I think you just proved you know nothing about wheeling
mild offroading?
I can take a rubi places you would be scared to bring your FJ, I can bring a regular wrangler places you would be scared to bring your FJ
Look at it like this, You are a poser, if you actually knew about Wheeling, you would respect the Rubi. There is no brand loyalty in the 4x4 world when the truth is stated, just respect. The FJC is earning that respect everyday, but not as a machine that can go places the rubi can, but as a great all around wheeler. it gets beat by the rubi the harder the terrain gets however. Just fact. That is why a lot of us have both, or had to make a decision on how they wanted the vehicle to behave, Was the need ofr a DD more than the need for a trail rig. I have a FJC for the wife to get groceries in and me to wheel every other month, and a wrangler that hits the trails 2 or 3 times a month for 8 hours or more.

I agree, I dont like my Rubi, but if you want the best hard core offroad
vehicle in stock form, the Rubi is King.

Needless to say, you're an idiot. Mild off-roading?? Damn Poser! (Thanks highbeams) So, you were willing to build a Rubi up...and then complain about it's spongy ride and lack of nice features?!! WTF logic is that?! If you want a daily driver, then don't build your Jeep up.
In the end the FJC will have the same reputation as the cherokee does, Damn nice wheeler.
I have always like short buses, maybe that is what attracted me to the FJC when it was still a concept. Face it, I love my wrangler, but if I had to drive it more than to,on, and from trails, it would get sore on me fast. And I love My FJC, just My 04 wrangler I paid cash for, so I have it modded up and doing trails and if it breaks, so what I fix it. The FJC my wife uses every day, I cannot afford to treat it like the jeep, but then, I never saw it as a toy either.
My true assessment is I will sell the FJC in 5 years, the TJ is a long term investment, will run the tires off of it in 20 years or more, like my old CJ5.
WHy isn't it the other way around, the same reason the Jeep took 4x4 of the year.
Lets see....FJ cruiser $30k stock with all kinds of technology/saftey features and such...poor visibility!! Great look at me factor! After warranty is up...start saving for all the techno/ECUs/switches/power operated goodies ie: window motors, dash switches etc... remember this is what I do for a living. Its not all maintenance anymore, Your local mechanic will not be able to service your FJ without all the proper diagnostic equipment. Add in aftermarket bumpers, winches, air compressors, suspension and etc... and you are looking at over $ 40k! Not to mention that you can not whip your FJ around, clean/clear out the tire tread in mud/snow without the very sophisticated vehicle ECUs taking over the driver input! Boring for all you old-timers that like the thrill of driving! For me it was a matter of spending the $ in the right places... single income earner, 2 kids and a stay at home Mom. I bought a Used TJ for under $7k added some goodies...stayed under $12k and It blows away the FJ offroad period! And yes it does have aftermarket Disconnects made by JKS... they work very easy! And if you really went off road, you would know that you have to air down the tires anyway... so to disconnect the front sway bar, it only takes a minute. Not to mention that I now have a on-board air compressor for tires and air tools, winch, HD rock bumpers, lights, doors that come off, convertable top,air lockers, staight 6 cyl. that is proven! Not available in the new JK..one of the big gripes...and a list of goodies to boot! still all for under $12k!!! Oh yah! I forgot the extra $$$ bought me a new motorcycle!! Still under $20k spent... lets see what else can I do with the extra $$$ lol! I learned a long time ago... from my wife that one vehicle can not do it all, When I was young 20 years ago (EGO)I thought that my Toyota truck could Tow, go off road and be a daily driver-NOT! Now I have a specific vehicle for towing/long distance traveling.. Crew-cab Powerstroke, very safe I might add.... If it came down to this, Drunk driver versus FJ, or versus my Powerstroke, I will take the Ford for safety and my familys well being...Jeep for off-road/commute/second vehicle.. motorcycle for work commute, dirtbike for fun...and $ in my pocket. Where I live the In New Mexico you can spend the roughly 5-600 a month on a piece of property and gain equity...that to me is Bling! or security/investment.. The FJ was purely Bling and Look at me! Liability...It does not mean that I do not still like it...maybe after I make some real $$$ on some property I can Buy a FJ limited with the extra free $$$ made! But for now it does not hurt as much to go off-road and ding/scratch my used TJ...than it did when I had my FJ,,,Ouch! And did I say how good the visibility was on the TJ? In comparison submarine vs boat! Apples and Oranges!!! I also still post because I am a Automotive Geek/expert/professional whatever you want to call it? Toyotas have been my life/work...anything with a engine appeals to me! I am not stuck to any one brand...I dabble in all sorts of Forumns--Motorcycles/cars/trucks/FJs etc.....It keeps me Sharp with the publics opinions...and lack of knowledge... of the product. Sometimes it takes an expert or someone with experiance to clarify this.. Otherwise you are just wasting your $$$ finding out on your own!
