Tundra beats Silverado & Titan

Comparison Test: 2007 Half-Ton Pickup Trucks

381hp/401lb.ft 5.7L v8

0-60 6.3s!! (Double Cab 4x4, 5,637lbs)
1/4mile 14.8s @ 93.7mph

What a beast!

Power on wheels

Quote:
On the chassis dyno, the Tundra rocks above 5,000 rpm, though the Titan keeps up admirably up to that point. The Silverado's power wasn't as strong as we expected. The big jump in power at 5,650 rpm indicates the engine's calibration switch to open-loop, fuel-rich running to achieve Chevy's advertised power. Below 5,650 rpm, it's in closed-loop. You get 4 seconds of closed-loop operation every time the throttle's floored in the Silverado.

Re: Tundra beats Silverado & Titan

Thanks for the link. It's the best comparison review I've read by far. Now imagine a ~650 lb. lighter 4X2 Regular Cab with the same drivetrain! It would take the test rig 14.4 lbs./hp to 12.7 lbs./hp, cutting accel times by at least 12% to 5.6 sec. 0-60 and a 13.0 quarter. Obviously aero would apply at some point, but that 5.7L has some twist!

Re: Tundra beats Silverado & Titan

What the h3ll is wrong with GM ? The Silverado's 6.0 has almost as much power as the Toyota 5.7 and the Silverado is several hundred pounds lighter.

Looking at your graph, I have a question. How many people will ever get their truck over 5,000 rpm or even 4,000 rpm ? Trucks should get the job done in the lower rpm ranges and I can't remember ever having a truck over maybe 4,500 rpm. With that being said, it is still obvious the Toyota beats out the others in the lower (i.e. useful) rpm range.

Re: Tundra beats Silverado & Titan

Nice:
It comes down to utility, though, and the 1st-place 2007 Toyota Tundra simply offers more of it. No matter what we threw at it, the Tundra never blinked. It's almost as though Toyota built a 3/4-ton truck and honed it for half-ton duty, such is its unburstable nature.
