New car ideas.

I have a coworker/friend that is looking for a new car. He asked me for help. His list of likes/wants is pretty unique, please help me suggest the right car for this guy.

He is 36, married and has a child, possibly another in the works next year or so. He is into cycling, hiking, and doesn't want something too small. He likes to get off the main roads and on dirt roads in the mountains, etc but he's not really intersted in any serious wheeling. He wants something that he can put his bike in/on -same for camping gear and the general family stuff BUT he is also looking for something fun to drive and kind of cool. He currently drives an Explorer which he is very bored of. He'd like something that has decent power and handles well and gets decent mileage as this is a daily driver.

I am thinking of something like a Subaru Outback or a Volvo cross country-they seem kind of outdoorsy and fun but will also haul the goods. Any other ideas? I mentioned the FJ at first but he takes his kid to school everyday and would like to have 4 doors so he doesn't have to get out while in the dropoff line and his daughter can get out of the back-curbside.

What do you think???

Re: New car ideas.

I think he'll liek the 4 runner better than the Pilot- in this town Pilot's are very soccer momish-he's trying to avoid that.

How about a Tacoma double cab?? It's good for his type of offroad, will haul the bikes and/or camping gear and it's got 4 door. The mileage should be as good or better than the 4 runner. I'm not sure where he stands on luxeries but his Explorer has leather so I was thinking more up market-I'll try to get an idea from him- good suggestions!

The all-new Highlander will be introduced in a week at the Chicago show. It'll be available in AWD, gas or hybrid powered.

Re: New car ideas.

For this adventurous individual, who likes it rugged with four-doors, I think the choice is clear: Toyota 4-Runner

Re: New car ideas.

Honda Ridgeline or 4-door Tacoma - Having a truck bed is a fantastic thing for camping, biking, etc.
