Re: Are we all old truck fans?

Binder Beast here (lol). Love old trucks, classic cars and sports cars... Believe it or not, my current daily driver is a 1966 International Harvester Travelall 2wd IFS with the front ball joints on their last legs. Kind of scary to drive the Los Angeles & Orange County freeways at the speeds everyone goes around here. Sold my sports car a couple months ago when I bought a Sprinter Motorhome conversion in Colorado, but California wouldn't let me register it here because of smog issues (long story). So, I've been driving my Home Depot/parts runner daily. Really want to purchase something NOW, but the FJC is first on my list. Decided to go FJC and A-frame pop up trailer in place of the Sprinter Motorhome (that's why the 5K towing ability is so important to me). The FJC will be my dependable daily driver and camping toy. I will always keep the 4x4 Binder Beast listed below for those jobs that are too big or too dirty for the new FJC, like sheets of plywood, stump pulling, bags of cement, etc...

I sure wish they were sitting on the Toyota lots right now!

Hey fellas-first post here. This is all I've got as far as a link to old trucks. "Daisy" was my daily delivery truck for a small garden shop I owned. 1951 Ford F1 Flathead. Ran like a top, but no off road (although there were frequent dirt road trips.)

Anyway, looking forward to an FJ. I placed a deposit back in October, but I have to come here to get any info. My dealer here in Massachusetts seems to have virtually no idea what is going on.

Thanks for all the good info.

absolutely a thing of beauty. Some trucks were just not made for off-roading. Treat that '51 like a 'daisy' and when you get tired of her, give me a call !! I promise She would have a good home !! Again, a thing of beauty !!

Re: Are we all old truck fans?

This is my first post but I've been lurking almost daily for the past month. This thread brought me out of the woodwork...

Although I probably won't be fighting you guys for the first FJ's off the line, but I'm definately interested in one as a replacement for my '96 Jeep Grand Cherokee. About the only thing that I think will throw me off the trail of an FJ is if the price of one pretty well loaded bumps above $30 grand...in which case I'll likely look elsewhere in the form of an Xterra or even bailing on the idea of a fully functional 4X4 with some people hauling capabilities and going to something like an Element.

Anyway, back to the topic at hand...

I grew up driving a '70 IH Scout 800A with a short top as a farm runabout that my dad still has, but bought the '68 800 that's pictured for myself about 20 years ago. Other than needing to add about 2" more clearance, I'm pretty much done with it, although its more of a homebrew fix up rather than any type of true restoration. The pics are the only digital one's I've got and show the Scout dressed up for a parade...so take off the signage, streamers and flags...rub a little dirt, dust, and grime on it, and you'll have picture of what it normally looks like. I've got the white full top but rarely put it on. So...yes, I guess you can say I'm an "old truck fan".

Oh, and btw, for you old school Toyota fans...the color on this Binder is "Toyota Blue"...seriously! When I repainted it in the late 80's, the color swatch I liked the best was called Toyota Blue. I've still got about a quart of it in the garage. I wish the FJ's Voodoo Blue was a little more like this color than it is but Voodoo Blue is still the 1st choice for my FJ...until they release tan or dark green.

Thanks for the great forum!

Re: Are we all old truck fans?

Welcome Golfshrink. That is a very presentable blue, as is your Scout. Not sure about your stage name though. Is that your profession or an affliction from playing too much? All in fun around here...

OK so here's a photo of my "old truck." Not an FJ-40 but it's what the Japs copied to get the whole FJ thing started. I've had it for about five years. I think I'm the fourth owner. All original, all stock, with very little rust. It's a garage queen at the moment waiting on a brake job. I'm going to use my FJC to drag it out to my place west of San Antonio...someday.
