Arctic Trucks started some 15 years ago converting 4WD vehicles under the name of Toyota Accessories. At that time it was owned by P. Samuelsson hf, the distributor for Toyota in Iceland.
When international enquiries increased and some international projects where undertaken, P. Samuelsson hf decided in 1997 to establish a new company called Arctic Trucks. In a very short time Arctic Trucks became a strong brand name and in 1999 we opened Arctic Trucks Norway, which operates from Drammen and has become a well known household name in Norway.
Today Arctic Trucks is an independent company working together with several car importers, as well as doing many projects for both individuals and other companies. Our employees are absolutely the best people in the business, with many years of experience in conversions of various 4WD vehicles. These conversions consist of both design and all types of technical work.
The technical specialists at Arctic Trucks have over the years developed each individual detail in the conversion process in close cooperation with the State Technical Institution, with regards to safety and driving characteristics. Today Arctic Trucks can offer various conversions for Toyota, Nissan, Mitsubishi and Hyundai to name a few. As can be seen on our web side, Arctic Trucks can offer a broad line of wheels, tires, gear ratio’s, lift kits and other materials for conversions together with all kinds of accessories for both interior and exterior of the car.
Expeditions
Arctic Trucks has participated in two major expedition project outside of Iceland. The first one was an expedition to the Antarctica that was organised by the Swedish Polar Institute in cooperation between Sweden, Norway and Finland in 1997/1998. The latest big project of Arctic Trucks was an expedition across the icecap of Greenland in spring of 1999 where the participants drove in the footsteps of Fridtjov Nansen, the first man ever to cross the Greenland icecap. Both expeditions were unique as this was the first time automobiles were driven in these regions.
Research and development
With new aims for bigger markets research and development will change. Larger markets, stricter regulations call for more detailed design and testing. A lot of work was put into conversions of several models and now we are in the process to have them approved by the European regulations. The aim is to get 35” and 37” conversions for Land Cruiser 120 series and Hilux by the end of year 2006 and hopefully more models will follow in 2007. The approval will give Arctic Trucks access to many markets and countries in Europe.
