Prius owners stealing HOV stickers

So apparantly you can drive a hybrid in the diamond lane without an extra passenger or inflatable doll in Califirnia. But you have to get a sticker from the DMV ($8) . However, the number of stickers was capped at 85,000, and they have all been issued.

So now there is a rash of prius owners reporting their HOV stickers being stolen, especially in L.A.

Now the presumption is that these perps have to be other Prius owners who did not get in on the first 85,000 HOV lane stickers.

The NY Times called it "liberal on liberal crime"

Liberal on Liberal crime...

I heard they had a new law against that, but anyone convicted of it was automatically enrolled in a class so they can get back in touch with their feelings and find out why they acted in such a manner...then paroled with no time served...and a lollipop.

Re: Prius owners stealing HOV stickers

I don't mind people being libs but so many of them are hypocrites! Hybrids have been around for a while but you could give away the original Prius. Once it looked different and was easily recognizable, then the libs bought it to make a "statement". Never mind that a VW diesel got better mileage most of the time and had greater range, it didn't make a visual statement so they could scream "I care!"

Just like you can say anything you want as long as you agree with them. If you have a dissenting viewpoint they will try and shout you down everytime. What a crock! Never have a I seen such a "herd mentality" in all my life. If the Prius could be used in a HOV lane with a sticker, then the diesel VWs should be allowed too.

About the VW diesels, there are a lot of liberal greenies who drive them around. I think that most people prefer hybrid gasonline-electrics because gasoline is cheaper and doesn't smell bad, plus, the TDI has a 90 HP with a 0-60 time of 11.6 seconds compared to the Prius' 9.8. Mix in the Toyota reliability factor, and the VW TDI doesn't really look all that attractive.
