Question for Lexus owners
I want to buy a Lexus for my wife but have never dealt with them. There is only one dealer within 75 miles from me. Can anyone advise me on what to expect pricing-wise? Do they typically sell for some amount over dealer invoice, or MSRP, or what? I know this is an awfully broad question; I am just trying to get some idea where to start negotiations without giving up too much or wasting time. Thanks for any insight.

I can only tell you about Jacksonville FL. They sell at MSRP and maybe just a little under. Their service department is the best. They come to your home and bring you a loaner and pick up you vehicle. Bring it back to you washed and serviced. No haggles over any warranty work just pick up the phone and someone picks up the vehicle.
I concur with FJAl, Lex of Jax is a top notch dealer. We deal with them regularly, we just acquired a hybrid LS for the CFO of one of our credit unions.
If you are a member of a credit union closeby, ask if they have a buying service and if Lexus is on their preferred dealer list. If so, they'll work from invoice up as opposed to msrp down.
PM me for add'l info.
I've been casually looking at SC430's, now that they're old enough to be reasonable for a used one.
Last night I took my wife to look at a new IS250 AWD. We currently have a IS300 RWD. SHe loved the vehicle and we began the dance of negotiating, to be continued.
I would research websites to find invoice pricing on the vehicle you want. I started there (for example they have about 5,000 between sticker and invoice on the car we looked at). If you find that you hit a brick wall, call an auto broker.

We are looking at an IS 350 for the wife. We built one on the website for about 45 grand MSRP. We thought about the GX 470 but that's getting up there.

Re: Question for Lexus owners
Thanks for the replies everyone. She wants an SC430. I'll look on the internet for the invoice price; I assume there must be a lot of mark-up on a car that expensive. We're willing to wait for the right deal and the right color.

Re: Question for Lexus owners
Well we did it; bought her car today. A forum member PM'ed me and then spent time on the phone to give me some invaluable figures and information on this car which saved me $5,500 at my local dealer. This forum rocks! I'm not sure he wants his help to be public info because he is a Lexus employee, so I won't mention his name unless he jumps in here or says it's OK, but his help was much appreciated.
And another thing, it was the most incredible car buying experience I've ever had. The whole deal done in an hour or so, no histronics from the sales associate, no manager coming in to apply pressure, no pressure to buy an extended warranty or to finance, no nothing just calm and fast. I told them what I wanted to pay (armed with the knowledge I mentioned above) and he came back with a number only $200.00 higher and I said yes. We shook hands and there was no signing deal sheets or anything else, just "we'll call you when your car is here and ready" (it's coming from a dealer in a different state to get the color she wanted). Unbelievable! That alone almost justifies the higher price of a Lexus IMO. I've never felt so good about spending that much money.

Congrats on the wifes new ride.
Thanks; I'll probably not get to drive it much but if she's happy then I'm happy.

What color did you get?
"Matador Red Mica".

Maybe our Lexus forum member can help me, too.
I hope so. He told me a lot of good info, but the best thing was he quoted me a price very close to dealer invoice that I was able to use to make my offer at my local dealer.
Good luck with your purchase also.

Re: Question for Lexus owners
damn. Glad to hear a good news story as well as your take on the buying experience. Lexus is top notch for a reason. I'd like to get a GX one day when my wife's sequoia wears out, which will be along time.
