Jeep Wrangler Unlimited

Well I at first thought the 4 door jeep looked a bit strange, but today i saw one that was lifted with 35" Mickey Thompson MTZ's on it and man it looked sweet! Having 4 kids I was a bit envious of the 4 doors. But then i realized it still only seats 5, has less ground clearence, but the front locker is kinda cool too... anyway... had to get that off my chest

Re: Jeep Wrangler Unlimited

Then when you sit in one (if you are 6' or taller), you also realize how cool it is to have your head hit the plastic housing of the roll bar (is there really one in there?) when the seat is full back... and you wonder how that will feel to your head if you ever have a rear end collision... or to the vertibrae in your neck.

FJ is like my old Montero... huge head room!

Re: Jeep Wrangler Unlimited

The backseat is similar to that of a 2-door pickup truck...almost 90 degree upright! It is not very comfortable for long trips. Thus, i would rather get the SWB version.

Why would the Jeep Wrangler have less ground clearance than FJ?? (You are referring to the Jeep Unlimited Rubicon since you mentioned front locker, right?)

Re: Jeep Wrangler Unlimited

Probably due to the IFS measuring at the center of the skid plate vs. the bottom of the front diff on a solid axle'd rig.

Re: Jeep Wrangler Unlimited

Unlimited owner here. 6' tall and no headroom issues. The seat has an up/down adjustment on it and I like riding high with no probs. And the rears are very comfy. Mine leans back just fine, although it isn't as comfy as an FJ.

Re: Jeep Wrangler Unlimited

i just drove my bosses 06 wrangler or 07....whatever it is and i have to say that i kinda liked it. i really liked the fact that there was no body roll (due to the stiff suspension which i also liked) and i also liked the small turning radius. other than that i don't know what to say...except for the fact tat my fj kicks ass

Re: Jeep Wrangler Unlimited

Interesting. I was a long time Jeep owner. I hate the squared off rear. I hate the 14 inch xenon standard front fenders. What I truly hated was the H3 like lack of grunt at both the low end and at passing speeds. A real step backwards except for the four doors. If I were going to build another jeep I'd buy a pre-jk (tj) unlimited and covert to a cj-7 scrambler like pickup. In fact I havn't been convinced not to, Mrs. Rat needs her own ride offroad lol.

CJ-8 Scrambler. The CJ-8 had a wheelbase of 103 inches, as does the 2005-2006 TJ wrangler unlimited series. The key difference is in the length of the tub/overhang. The CJ-8 was 24 inches longer than the CJ-7, whereas the TJ unlimited is only 15 inches longer than the standard TJ. IMO, they should not have skimped on those 9 inches! What's worse is that the unlimited JK's wheelbase is extended all the way to 116 inches! In comparison our FJ's are at 106, 4runner 109, and the Luxo-Land Cruiser is at 112. Sure WB is not everything, but who'dathunk that a jeep wrangler would have a longer WB than a Land Cruiser?

I agree with you on the Jeep thing. ONly way I'd own another one (former CJ7 owner), would be a CJ-8 scrambler or a unlimited rubi TJ. And if TJ, I'll wait until the price goes to $10k or less (6 yrs old or older before it gets there I think!).
