I've wanted a Porsche 911 since I was a kid. Finally financially stable enough to buy one- I plan to pick up an '86+ targa this fall. Man those cars are cool! Real blast to drive- great looking- well made- and fast. Thing gets me, kids regularly put $20k+ into their civics, and promptly lose their ass on resale. You can buy a nice 911 coupe for under $20k and in ten years, pull $20k back out of it! Anyhow, just thought I'd see if there are any Pcar nuts here- I know of at least 2 guys who have FJs and 911s- plan to join you soon!
Cheers,
Paul.

I feel the same way. I have wanted one of those crazy cars with the engine in the trunk since I was a kid. I hope to buy one in the far off future too. They are such classics.
The new ones I just don't get it. you spend 90k on it, step on the gas and sounds like butt. (sorry not bashing, I just like the older ones...) an old RS would be badass. but I dig the '86 targa.

Paul, wow you're just like me! was really looking at a red '85 targa and have been dreaming about one since high school! I'm finally financially able now, but the road block is not financial anymore, it's the wife! UGH!

They are great cars...only problem with them is price of parts and service...you'll put 20k into it over 10 years if you use it much...Just wait till you have to buy heat exchangers!! Best advice is check out what you buy thoroughly before you commit. The Porsche, like all exotics and semi exotics can be VERY expensive to fix and there some well known - chronic problems that eat the $$$$.
I had a 65 356 for a few years, sold it for $900. I'd like to take that deal back.
My boss has an 88 911. He bought it cheap and started running at Limerock. It wasn't long before every spare $$ went into his car. Now it's no longer stree-legal. He built a garage with a lift, compressed air, sand blaster, powder coating and spends every non-working minute there with his Porsche buddies doing mods to make the car faster and better handling. He just spent the whole winter rebuilding the tranny and suspension getting ready for Spring events. According to him, anyone who doesn't put the car on the track shouldn't have one (that has a familiar ring to it).
This is his forum, for anyone looking to mod their Porsche.
He's been trying to get me to by one for a couple of years now. Just a matter of time.

Kinda like a description I once heard for a boat...a hole in the ocean you throw money into...but then cars, regardless of the type all fit that category. I've doing it all of my driving life. You just have to have that commitment to spend, or don't bother at all.
