Re: Hummer taken down by a few pebbles

OLD vid...sux to be that guy.

Yup, the tie rods in the H2 are a weak link--but that was 100% driver error...

Had he taken it a little slower, LESS SKINNY PEDAL, he would have been fine. I was on the dark side (owned a H2) before I got my FJ. I did some crazy things in that truck trail-wise--it is a pretty capable rig when driven correctly. Although I find my FJ to be 10X the machine my old H2 was.

I love the "crunching" and "creaking" sounds! Add's to the drama!!

Re: Hummer taken down by a few pebbles

That's quite the old video actually... Tie rod i believe is what popped... If i remember the story correctly, he had to leave it overnight. When they returned, it was vandalized.

sucks don't it...

to the H2's credit... spotter/driver stupidity. They could have traversed that without breaking anything.

Lucky the axles didn't break... 300hp and IFS isn't too friendly. I know first hand with my Chevy. Solid axle conversion is the optimal way for offroading.

Re: Hummer taken down by a few pebbles

The biggest shame is that when you buy an H2 (or H3 for that matter) you are basically buying the supposed reputation of Hummer and you expect it to hold up based on all the advertisements.

I saw a new H2 on the dealer's lot last week . . . $68,000, and it wasn't even pimped out ! Considering the weight and ultra-crappy mileage of an H2, it should be built a little more beefy.

True...if you are paying 50+k for a vehicle that is marketed as a "off-road" vehicle then you'd expect them to over-build them, not UNDER-build them.

But then again, the exec's deep down know that the majority it's being sold to is for weekend warriors and Soccor-mom mall crawlers. So why eat up their profits building it stronger. The average wife won't be breaking a tie rod or axle in the Macy's parking lot. lol...

Sucks to be that guy...anyone who ever had a break down on a trail knows just how much that sucks. Especially if you realize it's something you can't fix on trail.

For a while there i'd always carry around an extra axle in the saddle bag (Avalanche side compartments) just in case. That's usually the first to break with 300horses...

Re: Hummer taken down by a few pebbles

As soon as I heard the RPMs, I knew trouble was brewing. The break was totally avoidable.

I'd say that the FJ is 20X the machine since you can buy two FJ's for the price of one H2.

i wish i had video for my links breaking they sound the same way,

Lesson learned due not follow jeep with 6 inch long travel suspension go to medium route no matter how small you feel inside.
