X-Terra vs FJC

I brought my bro-in-law offroading over the weekend and I think he liked it.

He has been researching the cost of a used FJC. The thing is that he works for a Nissan dealership and can get major discounts on the X-Terra.

He can't afford more than 20K.

Should he get a high milage FJC or a close to new X-Terra??

I doubt he can get an FJC for 20k unless it has lots and lots of miles.

4x4 is a must....

Thanks for your opinions

Re: X-Terra vs FJC

They are very close vehicles. The X-Terra has just a hair of an edge on road comfort, and the FJ Cruiser has just a hair of an edge off road. ...so it is up to him. What does he want it for?

Re: X-Terra vs FJC

Amazing, we already have 2 brothers on here that have the same arrangement. JoshW and JBC have and FJ and X-terra respectively. Bo (JBC) wants an FJ now after buying the X.

Where vehicles are concerned, it is much better and overall less expensive to buy one you love instead of one you like and then the one you love later.

Re: X-Terra vs FJC

My brother has a xterra, very impressive, the off the line power of the v6 is outstanding, and for a 20k budget the xterra is a fantastic choice. Finding a FJC for that price will be difficult if not impossible, considering the FJ has only been around a little under two years.

Re: X-Terra vs FJC

XTerra is a good truck, no doubt. If dollars are an issue I'd say go with the Nissan and it's four real doors. If having a truck with some real balls off-road is the issue, FJ.

I agree with everything above but would say if he wants to do some mods to his rig, The FJ has a lot more to chose from and new products are showing up every day.

Re: X-Terra vs FJC

I own both an 05 xterra, and a 07 fj , Ive never taken the xterra off road, but the xterra has a Much stiffer suspension and better road handling capabilities than the toyota. I have never offroaded the Xterra ever. most dirt its seen is at a campground, but I didn drive it back from virginia a bit over the speedlimit and it is comfotable at high speeds, not somthing I can say about my FJ. BUt if hes sticking to the road go Xterra, aspecially since its cheaper. Not any better on gas though. but not worse either. Good luck, personally I would go fj, just cause its different, not alot on the road, Ive had people assume that the FJ cost over 40k before so that feels good too.

Re: X-Terra vs FJC

I to agree. I have owned two Nissans a Pathfinder and a Hardbody. Both great trucks for there time but after market parts I found were some what harder to find. It seemed there were alot fewer suppliers to choose from. We now have a 4runner and an FJ with an un-limited after market to choose from.

Same principal as getting a mail order bride.

Modding the X is expensive and the choices are few & far between.
