Hummers new H4

Hummer is unveiling the new H4 at the Detroit auto show.

I know many here hate Hummer but this thing may change some minds. If not yours.....OK.
I'm happy to see another American 4x4 go after Jeep head to head, competition is good for the consumer.

Hummer concept guns for Jeep Wrangler

Hummer Guy

Not looking for a pissing contest with anyone, this is just some info on a new 4x4 from Hummer.

Re: Hummers new H4

I like the concept of the rig. It looks disturbingly like an FJ in one of the photos. Then again, imitation is the highest form of flattery and it's only natural that GM would like to make a rig that mirrors the FJ.

If they put some effort and thought into it, GM or Ford could pull it off. I would like to have the confidence in an American product that I have in my Japanese product -- at the same price.

My first choice was an H-1 and at many levels still is. However after buying it and insuring it, I don't know that I'd want to scratch "my investment". And what fun would that be?

- In Los Angeles, it would make the commute much easier.

Re: Hummers new H4

That's funny to me Uphill.

Perspective is interesting. I don't think it looks at all like an FJC. Almost polar opposite in fact, but after reading the Hummer 3T thread, and reading someone say the slantback camo looked like a FJC, I suspected I would hear it here too.

I think Hummer actually had a slantback for sale back in the 90's.

Anyway I agree, I hope the build quality is as good as my experience that I have had with the last two I've owned.

I read that this new rig is being built to be fully customizable, I read that as ability, not bling (it will have to be, to compete with Jeep). I do believe the H4 will be IFS though. I don't know if it will have a solid rear axle or the complete independent like the H1.

If you are just scanning through a very important part of this new H4 is:

“The HX offers an open-air driving experience via a pair of removable roof panels above the driver and front passenger and a modular, removable rear roof assembly enabling a quick conversion from closed vehicle to open vehicle SUT. It also features a slant back assembly removable doors and fender flairs.”

There is much speculation that the H1 is coming back also, just not as an Alpha, around 85K.

Re: Hummers new H4

Except for the slant back it does look a lot like the FJC

Looks as if the front bumper doesn't have the FJ's "tusks" sticking out sideways though...

Re: Hummers new H4

Oh, the "H" word again

If Hummer put a SFA under it and made it seriously beefy I would be interested. Otherwise I can't see Hummer outdo Jeep for sheer off-road ability or Toyota for quality and practicality
Why can't Hummer sell a stripped H1 for 40-50K ? If they did I could possibly be a Hummer fanboy

It'll be interesting to see what features actually make it to the market. i agree that competition is good for the consumer.

Doesnt look bad... hopefully we see a hybrid or at least 25mpg plus from a new off road capable vehicle soon.

If its only at a conceptual drawing phase... were still probably at least 4years out. Has the physical concept been displayed at a show yet?

Re: Hummers new H4

If they could actually make a vehicle that is portrayed in those drawings, Has a 5.3 liter V-8 and has lockers front and rear...I'd buy one!

The sketches were released by GM to announce the unveiling of the concept vehicle next month at the Detroit Auto Show.

All three concept sketches were submitted and one was picked, from that they built the concept vehicles. They have been built and tested and will be shown next month.

They are just based on those sketches, the actual vehicle may or may not look exactly like them.

The vehicle is expected to be the 2010 H4. It is rumored to also have a diesel engine available. It is slated to be priced between 20-30K depending on trim level.

Re: Hummers new H4

20,000-30,000 range and diesel.............I would definitley consider it. Depends on the looks also. From the pics it definitley looks menacing. That gives it an A + in my book.

Im really liking some of the new designs GM has came out with recently. Hopefully there on there way back up. I believe if the reliability issues are taken care of they will be back in the game.

I wish that Toyota or GM would offer a offroad package with a SFA. This could definitley increase the competition for Jeep. I understand 90% of the vehicles will never see dirt. However, the other 10% would snatch those SFA's up quick.
