Smile "Up-Armoured" Touareg!

HI Everyone,

Some of you might know (or not) I was in Germany last September and visited the WTS in Koblenz. Koblenz has the largest BW base in all of Germany. The WTS is the largest and most complete technical museum for items associated with the BW ~ the Bundeswehr, or the German Army. They has some items associated with the Wehrmacht services too (Heer, Luftwaffe and Kreigsmarine).

Among the tanks, artillery and hand weapons on display, there was one item that I thought you guy & gals might get a kick out of.

It's a full armoured VW Touareg that was purpose built for "high speed" delivery of VIP's in no so nice areas of the world. The glass was very thick and the door panels have steel inside to help catch sharp fast metal things.

So enjoy!

Steve

here is the Touareg in the special NATO green paint.

it's paws wear 265-75's

note the field antenna mount (antenna not installed) on the l/r window

quite a roof rack! definately not an ARB! good for goats, small camel maybe?

Very cool rig. I like the taureg anyway. The price is the only thing that sucks about it.

Interesting implementation of a roof rack. Holy cow that must weight a bit!

I'm surprised they used the V6 gasoline engine and not that BADA$$ V-10 diesel. I love what they did with it though. Nice rig.

Based on my very personal experience with the TReg, I hope they have a plan for when they are on a high speed run and the thing just suddenly stops running.... had that happen more than once on Chicago expressways doing 70+ mph in the left lane in bumper to bumper traffic during rush hour.

My Touareg never had such a problem, let alone multiple times. Matter of fact I loved it at highway speed+. It was like a big sports car. Off-road it was a blast as well, and was the thing that gave me the off-roading bug.

Re: "Up-Armoured" Touareg!

I like the mesh light guards in this pic. Probably smart to label the key positions too so you don't have to think which way to unlock.
