embarrassing moments honking the horn

I thought this would be a great idea for a thread..maybe it's just us, but does anyone else have problems with their over sensitive horn? Is it just positioned in an inconvenient way? We've had so many embarrassing moments "accidentally" honking our horn. Yesterday we were driving through town, and we have some what of an interesting intersection that we physically have to turn around and look over our shoulder..in doing so Bill hit the horn with his elbow...and 50 people jammed in a parking lot looked up at us..that's not all folks. Four wheelin in Moab.. intense moments.. and accidentally honking the horn and no cb to explain.... it's funny yes...but embarrassing at times too.... any other experiences with the horn?

Re: embarrassing moments honking the horn

I haven't had that problem hitting the horn
but what really is embarrassing is the weakness of the horn when you do hit.
I think a moped has more of a manly horn then FJ does.
It embarrassing when someone cuts you off, then you honk the horn and everyone laughs including the person who cut you off.
Changing out the horn was my first mod.

Re: embarrassing moments honking the horn

The honk of shame. Know it well.

The day I brought my FJ home, I was texting (HUGE surprise) with my phone leaning square on the horn for a good five seconds. This happened just as someone merged into my lane. Only issue is that my stereo was up so loud I didn't realize it right away.
I think that person hates FJ's now.

Thanks, Athena, for starting this humbling and funny thread!

you know, maybe that's why it's so embarrassing for us...cause it's as dinky as it is...

hilarious... most of the time when we accidentally honk is when we're going down hill on a rugged trail... I thought it was just the hubby's bad habbit of having his arms in the way.... but sure enough I did it...

Re: embarrassing moments honking the horn

i was just finishing pumping gas and was writing the amount in the checkbook, on the middle of the steering colomn, well i forgot that Scott had replaced the horn with an airhorn, and when i wrote i pushed to hard and the horn sounded just as the person in front of me was finishing pumping their gas! after it svcared the crap outta him, he thought i was honking at him like to hurry up or something, since i was sitting there appearing to be waiting for him (but writing), i rolled down my window and apologized!! it was so loud!!! I have hit it like that several times on accident, so i would say ours is sensitive!

I'm telling you... we hit it so much... I'm kind of clean freak and once a week I clean the Fj's interior and I swear I honk at my garage door 7 or 8 times by the time I'm done..LOL I couldn't imagine having an airhorn... a sensitive horn "button" would be a great detour ant for the hubby and I to mod the horn...LOL

Re: embarrassing moments honking the horn

My 1st time to Raush Creek, and they explained
some trial rules, one being, don't beep your horn
unless you are in need of assistance or in trouble,
well... FJ Horn to the rescue, I hit that biach so
many times (maureen would remember... LOL...)...
I was so used to haveing my left arm accross the
wheel, that every little bump, I would get the CB
going off "what is the issue ?"... I think I
mentioned this last year right after the trip there,
as far as adding a horn kill switch, it would be
quite simple !....
