I'm thinking about getting another bike (probably a Honda ST1300) even now, but at 57 (pushing 60) most of my riding days are behind me.
My dad is 68. He does at least 1k miles a month. During the summer it is closer to 3k. Get the Honda, or whatever may flip your switches. You won't regret it.

I have been riding for a very long time and absolutely love it.
Matter of fact my wife tells me to go ride because she loves to see the big smile on my face when I walk in the door and she says the stress looks like it has evaporated.... Now with -40°C weather and snow everywhere I cannot wait to be on 2 wheels again....
Drive safe, drive with caution!
Please do not let the cold get to you like this guy.

Currently in my stable
2005 Triumph Speed Triple
2006 Triumph Daytona 675
2007 Suzuki DRZ400 SM
next addition is the Ducati Hypermotard.
At one point I rode a nice 2000 Harley Fatboy and never had any issue on the road with cagers, however as soon as I threw my leg over any type of bike other than a cruiser I noticed in a big way the difference in how the cagers acted and drove around me. It definitely wasn't an improvement! It is simply amazing how so many people driving in a cage can have their head so far up their ass! Of course all the squids out there aren't doing us any favors winning over drivers support either.

DUDE! What was wrong with the K1200rs?(or was it just a "Taxi cab"?) that you called it a lemon? I traded my 98 K12rs last year for a 07 R1200GS. I LOVE this bike to death!
The K1200RS is a good bike (albeit a bit too heavy w/a tendency to nosedive in hard braking and tuck-in on turns), but the one that I got was truly a lemon. Kept leaking through the front engine plate -- 3 plates replaced -- so I traded it in on the Ducati, which wasn't a tourer, but was a fantastic road legal race bike that made me feel like a king when I road it, but was a much better machine than I was a rider. If I could afford to just let $17K sit in the living room, I would have kept it and put it there just to look at it.
BTW, I think the 1200GS is better than the 1200RS, but I'm probably going to go w/the ST1300 instead or maybe a used ST1100 to save $$.

That is hilarious! I hope he is doing that because it -40C outside! I hope i dont go crazy and tape myself dancing wearing a full race suit in the garage. All though i sometimes sit in front of my bike and stare at it for a very long time..... I live in southern california so i am blessed to be able to ride all year round.

For all the Ducatisti, how about some shots of the most advanced 4 cylinder to come from the little shop in Bologna.

My K12rs did the same thing.
After the dealer tried to repair it three times I just learned to live with it.
I test ride for Aeroflow windscreens(the same guy's that make the headlight covers for our FJ's) Paige did a screen for the honda ST1300. I have to say that it is the most lackluster motorcycle I have ever ridden! It is very automotive feeling to me. (just MHO) I thought of the BMW R1200RT, but could not see spending that much at this time. The R1200GS is the BEST handling motorcycle I have ever ridden bar none! If you want a sport tourer, then put a Aeroflow screen on it and WHAMMO!!! you have a touring machine that can go ANYWHERE!( I know they are ugly, but ride one you'll see what I'm talking about!) If you want a canyon carver then use the stock screen and you can carve with the best of them! I'm
posting the pic I did on Saturday for those that didn't see it. Just a side note , The Duc. ST3 1000 was the beat bike Paige has let me ride so far for handling!
P.S. love the avitar, I'm into Jazz too! AND a 1964 Honda 305 Hawk was the first motorcycle I ever got a ride on!(I was 5yrs old and KNEW at that moment I wanted to ride the rest of my life!)

I always believed in the simple rule: There are two kinds of motorcycle riders.
Those that have gone down.
And those that will go down.
The Harley quote is effin funny..
What fun this was, nothing better than a video of yourself wadding it up. Let's see I've a low side, a high side, pulled it over.... I think thats more then enough.

This is exactly how I feel about my Multistrada. They may not be much in the face, but boy are they great for the long haul and carving the twisties. When I went to the Tail of the Dragon last year I put 1500 miles on the Multi in 3 days. I highly recommend that anyone looking for a Sport Touring bike check out the Multi. We have a lot of R1200GS converts Personally, I think they are both great bikes. I was sold on the soul of a Duc.

Glad to hear someone else had problems w/the K1200RS. The dealer kept claiming that it never happened before and, when I complained about it on the K1200S owner website, the other Beemer cultists just couldn't accept the criticism.
Given my experience with the K1200 and given the cost of the GS, I'll still probably go w/the ST1300. It's a little vanilla, but I like the lines, the bags are huge, there's a huge owner group and lots of gadgets available for STs and they don't cost that much. I've never had a problem w/any Japanese made bike nor any Ducati.
Also nice to hear about your first ride experience w/the Honda Hawk. A couple of my friend's had one, but I was the only one w/a Scrambler. Guess I had a taste for dirt even then.
