I've thought about getting a bike, because apparently if you ride one, the rules dont apply to you. If someones going too slow for your tastes in a no passing zone, you can pass them. Or just weave in and out of traffic. Im sure most bikers are sensible, but you only remember the idiots.

Generally the boneheads are the crotch-rocket 20 something crowd. Harley guys are by far safer drivers, as their main concern is if they have the poser image right. (mandatory goatee/black t-shirt/bandana on head/leather/HD logo on every item of clothing they own, etc..) That whole thing where they all dress the same and think theyre unique just kills me. Love my dirt bike, but no interest in ever driving one on-road. I always give bikers wide berth though, amazes me when I see Joe Hummer riding some dudes ass.
Love how you gave everyone a "poke" but yourself.

I'm sure that you ride your "dirt bike" with a pair of logger boots, jeans and a wife beater while wearing your NY Yankees hat on backwards, right? Just like all the "extreme-moto" guys, doing back flips, flat spin 360's and body varials into the foam pit.

Or, maybe your dressed up just like your fav motocrosser with full on "moto-gear"...Sidi boots, Fox "leathers", Answer chest protector, Oakley goggles with your Arai helmet, just like all the other guys at the track, "thinking the are unique". C'mon dude, I am unique cause I have the Ricky GOAT jersey and you don't.

I wear a "costume" when on my KX-250, a different one when on my Harley Softail, yet another when on my old BMW R1150RT, then another when on my Kestrel MTB and even different when on my Kestrel road bike, all functional for each purpose. But, to a person who doesn't understand the function of the components, I guess the gear would appear to be posing, just as if one went to a motocross track, a sport bike road race, Sturgis or an "Iron butt" event.

I think I get who the poser is, the guy who points fingers at everyone else without looking at themself...

I have a issue with HD riders who "cruise" side by side and completely block you. When I was on my Aprilia, there's been more then a few times where they will move to block me from passing. I don't get it. If you want to "cruise", then allow others to pass.

Those guys crack me up every weekend, looking like escapees from a Village People convention that have just swallowed a turd. Per the original post in the thread riding is supposed to be fun, not a coolness contest or a halloween costume party. Like my bud Skiv says, it's all the same wind but you have to want to be in it.

Re: Why Guys with Motorcycles Ride...

First post was well written.

I have ridden all my life and with the short hiatus' of off time, I think I will always have a love affair with the 2-wheel affliction.

Please refer to my previous post concerning safety in traffic and always giving yourself an out. It is not a matter of weaving through traffic. Its a matter of getting yourself out of a bad situation before it happens. As for passing in a no passing zone. I have only done this one day because I was riding in a group. I now refuse to ride with the kid that pulled that stunt.

I am sorry you feel that all HD owners are posers. This really is not the case. My father and one of my best friends have HDs. They could care less about the image. We will be taking a trip to Sturgis this year. I will be on my Ducati. If you ever take the time to go to a rally you will realize that it is not what you ride, but that you ride. I give the same respect to anyone on two wheels, be it a cruiser, sport bike, dirt, etc. We have a common bond that we have chosen to do something that we love. Not everyone may understand it, but they do not need to. When I look down an open road with the mountains and a set of twisties steadily approaching I feel like heaven is a short reach away. This is all of the explanation I need.

Re: Why Guys with Motorcycles Ride...

I hope everyone who has fought the bad weather had a chance to get out and ride recently. I went for a 3 hour ride around the Pittsburgh area today just to enjoy the amazing weather we had today. Watch out for the potholes! This is the worst time of the year for them!

If anyone on the East Coast sees an FJ with a Ducati hauled on the rear hitch over the next few weeks flag me down. I'll be heading down to NC and SC next weekend and the weekend after to do a bunch of riding. The only reason I'm hauling the bike is because I have to fly each week for work, and it's hard to fit a suitcase on a bike.

Ok, so I decided to play with the Despair Inc DIY Tool.

Re: Why Guys with Motorcycles Ride...

This thread is making yearning for my bike. I may look into getting another in a year or so. Something smaller and easier to get around town.
