Volvo drivers prefer safe cars but are they safe?

Over the last 9 years of riding motocycles, I've had a few close calls, a few I remember are volvo drivers pullin' out in front of me or on the phone... sure there have been other drivers driving other makes, I don't deny that...

In the movies they show the star that was recently in a massive car wreck driving around in a new Volvo... we think of volvo drivers as safety conscious... at least I do...

So I'm commuting home in my SUV [see if you can guess what kind] that I picked up a few weeks ago, and I see this black volvo drive by and something catches my peripheral vision...

So I grab my phone to take some pics b/c surely y'all will want to see this...
So there's the subject:

Dang it I missed the driver but can't believe what I saw...

and then the volvo driver's lane comes to a stop and my lane sends me up ahead by 15 cars... crap...

So now I start hopin' and prayin' she doesn't turn... I need to get a driver's side pic... so over the next 5-6 miles... she's back there and I'm drivin' 5mph under the speed limit in the right lane lettin' people pass me... finally I get in the left lane as she passes and i'm not ready with my phone... damnit...

better hurry:

Alright... all I have to do is catch that light and I can sneak a pic, hopefully she doesn't look over... I can't believe what this woman has on her head... and has had on her head on a surface road for over 10 miles...

Holy crap... she's not even thinkin' about looking my direction... time to snap a good pic...

I guess it could be a student driver? Seems to be some lady commuting home from work... considering it was very similar commute home to me but a few neighborhoods over from mine...

Is this the new rage with the safety conscious volvo drivers?

I'm confused yet this makes me laugh...

I guess we should be happy that she had the helmet on properly?

The problem that I noticed with this overly cautious driver is that she never looked left or right for 10 miles... she never knew i snapped these pics...

Re: Volvo drivers prefer safe cars but are they safe?

I've actually come up with a 'volvo theory' over the last 15 years. All in all it is very simple: people that purchase volvos plan on being in accidents. Why else would you buy a car only because its safe (it's certainly not for the looks)? Because you plan on wrecking it! Why else would this lady wear a helmet?

This theory has proved very true over the years - volvo owners (sorry if you are reading this) really are the WORST drivers. They pull out in front of me, don't use signals, turn left from the right lane, etc. I drive alot for work - used to do 50K miles a year, and volvo drivers really are that bad.

Before you flame me, yes I know I painted with a wide brush stroke, and I'm sure there are those of you who are good drivers and have volvos, but I bet your wives bought them, or you bought them because in your warped sense of style (engineer or accountant?) you thought they looked good!

Re: Volvo drivers prefer safe cars but are they safe?

Engineers around here like the Volvos. But, I figure the woman in the picture recently had skull surgery, and has to protect her head. That's my theory, and I'm sticking to it!
