Old FJ-40

So i was looking through craigslist and found an old FJ-40 for sale. It is not running and has alot of "repaired rust". Its got a v-8 conversion and comes with an old soft top. I know its going to be old a beat up and would probably try and restore it. What do you all think? Is it worth the effort? should i just buy it and turn it into a trail vehicle? Cant really beat the price of 400$ Any past experiences?

Re: Old FJ-40

Either way you can go wrong, buy they are worth a lot of money if restorted.
If you need parts or work done I would recommand Cruisersolutions they are masters at fixing these and they fabricate their own parts if needed.
I just had my club meeting down there and I love that place.
here some pics

Re: Old FJ-40

$400.00 !! Grab it. Even if it's mostly junk...you could get that much out of parting it out. Do it. Just remember an FJ40 is not an FJC and don't try to make it into one.

Re: Old FJ-40

Get a u-haul trailer and use the FJ mark. Pick up a new hobby for 400 (initially )
You can either restore it (lots of money) or make it drivable. I wish i had an old 40 or CJ-7 to drive around for 3 seasons of the year.

It's only 4 bills, just think of the upside. Question is do you have the time?

Re: Old FJ-40

I have the time but im not sure if I have the money to fund this project... My FJC is taking up enough money now Its either keep my FJ and buy more stuff for it, buy this one and fix it up for a second toy, or buy it, fix it up, and turn a little profit. I just emailed the guy and asked for more pics and some more info
Here is the listing on craigslist
1975 TOYOTA FJ 40 LANDCRIUSER

It seems a little scetch so i need to go have a look in person and make sure their is a clean title. But how great would it be to wheel this on the trail !!!!!

Re: Old FJ-40

looks good for 400.
First thing to do. Change the color of that metalic blue ugliness. Maybe Matte black.

Re: Old FJ-40

Take a look at LandCruiserSteve's collection. 2 of his are the old FJs and they look awesome! Time and money, that's all it would take!!!! I would go for it. At $400 it would be a no brainer for me.
