Tacoma recall

I was in my local stealership today and one of the guys from the parts department saw me come in and came out to chat. He was asking me if I had brought in my 98 Taco about the recall. I told him I had sold it back in Oct '07 and bought an FJ.

He went on to tell me that Toyota Canada was recalling Tacoma's 95-99's he thought for rusted out frame rails. He said that if the service guys could knock a hole anywhere in the frame of one of the specified years that Toyota would buy the truck back for 1.5x the best Redbook price.....WOW!!!!

Today I drove through two dealership parking lots and they both had a small line of older Tacoma's lined up at the back of the dealership.......hmmmmm....would those stock alloys and steelies be 16" by any chance or would they all be 15" like my old '98?

Re: Tacoma recall

It sounds like BS, but its true. Mine failed the inspection about 2 weeks ago (note my user name). I got a little over 1.5 KBB for it, $14,535 for a 110k mile truck that absolutely had the crap beat out of it. I hate to see that truck go to the crusher, but the money and the removal of future liability/hassle of fixing it [again] is hard to turn down.

Signed the papers on my new FJC today.

Re: Tacoma recall

Like George Jefferson said....."Movin' on up......"

Now I sold mine last fall (1998,4cyl, auto with 253,000mi) for $6500 and was darn lucky to get that much.....As far as the frame went.....Well let's just say that it got undercoated atleast every second year so the recall and buy back would not have done me any good at all..... Damn me for taking care of my trucks.....lol

But to the ones who do get the cash......Congrats!!!!!!
