They are based of the X5... just smaller and more money.

Did a little more reading on the x6, kinda starting to like it. I guess a test drive will be in order for next week. (i just gotta test drive every new car).

It just doesn't. A vehicle that is 66" tall and weighs 4500lbs does not handle like a sports car and can not handle like a sports car. I think you are confusing the feedback and feel of a sportscar with the rough and jarring ride of the FX... not even remotely similar. Furthermore, my dad's M3 (not a true sportscar but close) rides much nicer (less jarring, better damping, more comfortable) on rough roads than my friend's FX.
It just doe's. I drive a 45 every day. Love that car. Ugly as hell, blind spots like crazy (no where near as bad as the FJ), but the thing handles FOR A SUV.
I would bet that the X6 handles better then most cars out there. I've driven the 4.8 X5 and that thing was quick and can handle too. They did a great job keeping the center of gravity low. I believe the engine was only 1 inch higher up then the regular 5 series. I would imagine the X6 performing better then the X5. I didn't just drive the X5 on the street, it was on an autoX course.

It may handle better than a Buick LeSabre, Crown Vic or some other soft, bloated American tub but practically any contemporary German sedan would blow it's doors off in the handling dept.

Braking, 60-0 mph
Infiniti FX45 -- 120 ft
BMW X5 -- 134 ft
Lexus ISF -- 106 ft
Porsche 911 (997) -- 98 ft
Lateral Acceleration
Infiniti FX45 -- .85 g
BMW X5 -- .78 g
Porsche 911 GT3 (997) -- 1.06 g
Lotus Elise -- 1.03 g
I couldn't find numbers for all of the vehicles in all of the sections and the numbers need to be taken with a grain of salt as they were conducted on different days under different conditions etc... I couldn't find any numbers for the X6, I guess it's too new. However the numbers I do have clearly show that an FX45 or X5 or any other SUV you want to name will compete with sports cars, sports sedans or even luxury sedans.

Two diesel engines were announced, The models are called the xDrive30d and xDrive35d. They are 3.0-liter turbodiesel engines (in sequential twin-turbocharged for the xDrive35d), and output 235 hp (xDrive30d) and 286 hp (xDrive 35d). The xDrive35d is the basis of BMW's Diesel launch late in 2008. Don't think you'll see a diesel in an FX.
I think it is a really good looking but slightly feminine ride. It looks too feminine to be my daily driver, but not feminine enough that I would mind driving my girlfriends around. Does that make sense?

Well, I wouldn't compare them to a 911 or Elise, but they hold up well next to the big sedans. My MDX pulls .89 on the skid pad with the stock tires. The new FX50 (June release) and X6 (which has rear torque distribution that the X5 doesn't) should have similar numbers. They're meant to be the larger versions of the 550i, G35/M45 for someone who wants a little more utility. I can't wait to see how that 4.4 turbo in the X6 is.
