alright maybe sooo... but even in traffic diesel disgusts me... I always roll up the windows put the air conditioning and recirc....
Yeah, does suck to be breathing tractor fumes in traffic. The trucks on the highway, just have to deal with them................

With todays computer controlled injection a diesel running clean fuel is pretty clean. That black smoke you often see is often caused by improperly tuned injection.
...........but, there are a lot of guys out there that get a very big kick out of loading the diesel (can't recall how a friend told me they do it), then dropping it into your open window and laughing all the way home. Many of them drive the trucks that are so tall they touch the ionosphere, have five shocks per corner and about $8k worth of bling on their rides, and whose collective idea of four wheeling is taking their pieces of boulevard bronco trash into the woods and thrashing areas like closed wetlands and revegetation closures, polluting the air with the power-chipped diesels and techno-ghetto rap, and littering the woods with their cheap budweiser/coors/miller cans, buttwipe, camping detritus and all manner of other trash.

I wish most were super clean NCFJ, but unfortunately, it's these monkeys that cause the ill sentiment expressed by Athena, and consequent to the reasons mentioned above, closures of many of the fantastic four wheeling trails we all enjoy. I love the torque of the diesel, but can't stand the redneck mentality of the wannabe monster trucks I've unfortunately observed in the Denver area.

All that said, I'd still own a diesel powered FJ in about a femtosecond!!!!!

Re: Jeep J8

No idea on the axles or tcase....I'd hope D44 or better with rocktrac case (4:1 or better)...but who knows. My understanding is that it won't matter to us civies anyway....miltary only from what I've read.

I don't care for the leaf sprung rear end....but I do understand since leaves will handle more weight than coils.

Re: Jeep J8

I did not read this was going to be available in US.....it is being built in Cairo Egypt...and from sounds of it is being marketed to mostly military or first responders. Them mentioning 5 hours of operation in sandstorm is definitely marketed for middle east where that is a huge problem for air breathers...

I would not bet on this vehicle being in United States the first year...honestly as it appears they are going for niche market overseas.

Re: Jeep J8

If they are built like my wife's 2 wheel drive Heep GC, the transmission will need to be worked on 5 or 6 times and rebuilt once with less than 40k miles. Now there is a problem with the shifter not properly sending info to the transmission. But hey they have the warranty on the powertrain right? There warranty isn't worth the paper it's printed on. You would think a part which is causing improper shifting of the transmission would be covered. Well this one isn't. Wife was thinking of getting a minivan made by C but there is no way if they are going to have poor reliability with such large loop holes in the warranty backing their products.
