Interesting Toyota Hybrid News.

So I was speaking with a buddy of mine that works for the Toyota safety engineering department and he was telling me that there's going to be 3 new hybrids coming out soon.

The most talked about is the redesigned prius that is supposed to be cheaper and more fuel efficient than the current model. There's also going to be a 4x4 hybrid. In addition Lexus will be adding a pure hybrid to their lineuup for those of you who want something a little more upscale. The new prius and lexus will be available in 2009.

Re: Interesting Toyota Hybrid News.

I read an article about the new Prius. It is supposed to be the same body style but the front will be redisgned and it will be a bit longer. Price will remain the same but efficiency will go up. I would consider getting a Prius for my wife. My parents have one and its a great car. It is the only hyrbid that actually pays for itself (price/maint/gas wise in the long run)

Re: Interesting Toyota Hybrid News.

I didn't get a chance to ask him indebt but he said that the prius and the lexus will be coming out in 09 and that the 4x4 fairly soon as well. I guess time will tell but he was the one that told me about the FJ cruiser getting the green light way back when it was still a concept, so I trust what he says. I just hope it's something cool.

Re: Interesting Toyota Hybrid News.

Chances are that Toyota will target a broader market, and opt for the Rav4, and not the FJ (bummer)...

From what I have read (Automotive News), the small 4X4 will be called the Urban Cruiser and be built off the same chassis as the Scion xD. It will likely be released in Europe first. Not sure if it will come to US and if it will be Scion if it does.

Re: Interesting Toyota Hybrid News.

I could see the upcoming 2009 Venza being a hybrid in 2010 or 2011. Seems a natural fit...if by '4x4 hybrid', you mean 'AWD hybrid'.

Re: Interesting Toyota Hybrid News.

Taco Hybrid would be cool.

I'm still hoping for a diesel Taco or for Toyota to bring the Hilux to the US. It'll never happen.
