Audi TT or Mini Cooper S?

I need some opinions on this:

I am thinking of getting a second car, no way am I getting rid of the FJC though. Seeing that gas is somewhat expensive now, I want to get something with good fuel economy but also want something sporty. Two vehicles that I am looking at are the Audi TT and the Mini Cooper S.

From what I have checked out I can get a base Audi TT four cylinder for 35-36K. A Mini Cooper S with options like thier Premium Package, DSC, Sport Suspension and Limited Slip would run me 25-26K.

It appears that the Audi is slightly faster than the Mini S, but the Mini S gets better MPG. The Audi is a bit more luxurious, but the Mini out corners it. My question is does anyone think the Audi TT is 10K more car than the Mini S?

I would get the Audi myself..... I have loved the TTs since they first came out..... I cant believe that a Mini would out corner it either..... HMMMM

Re: Audi TT or Mini Cooper S?

TT for me in a heartbeat! If I did not have one child in college and another on the way to college next year the TT would be on my short list along with the Porsche Cayman and the Corvette!

It's great to have choices and I am glad this won't replace your FJ.

Re: Audi TT or Mini Cooper S?

I own a Mini S and have driven the Audi. I have driven both of them at a track and your best deal would be the mini. Every time you get in the Mini it gets a smile on your face. It has a very sport drive, the finish and fit are amazing and it has an amazing retro look to it. Both of them handle amazing but I would definetly go for the Mini.

Re: Audi TT or Mini Cooper S?

Owned the MiniS, lusted for the TT. Mini is one heck of a surprise. Left many a ricer in the dust cornering wise. Get what you like best, screw the one takes premium hyperbole and British quality tripe. TT was overpriced IMO but very nice. Follow thy heart.

.........uhhhh.....i made the comment because he mentioned he was thinking of this purchase because he is concerned about rising cost of fuel........

....and yes i have read all the "premium gets you better MPG opinions"....but there is a difference between choosing to use it and the engine requiring it for standard performance.

Really? If you spend 25K+ for a vehicle is $2-$3 a fill up that much of a investment? If that paltry amount is such a concern, buy a Civic. All of us know it's a far better car but the request was for an S or an TT. If fuel $$ daunts do not look at performance vehicles. The Mini comes in a non S you know? No offense but premium vs regular fuel is a silly consideration when dealing with sports cars.
