HEHE, I'll probably get flamed for saying this. BUT, I actually LIKE the H3! I know I know .... I love my FJ, and the FJ community, but the H3 was my first choice in all honesty, however it was too pricey for me.
I've seen this argued to death on the Hummer boards.. Bottom line is, GM might be able to sell off Hummer, but htye can't shut it down without a LOT of problems.. Have ya noticed that just about every Hummer dealer is a stand alone.?? GM forced dealers wanting to carry the line to buld new dedicated Hummer buildings and lots.. If GM closes up shop it's gonna have a lot of feedback not only from customers, but from dealers that had to build new facilities in order to sell a line of vehicles for 4 or 5years.. Most of them haven't paid off the buildings yet I'd imagine..
I spoke with my dealer about it a week or few ago.. They told me they are actually moving more H2 than they have since the line came out. They are averaging one a day. More than the H3.. Granted they're giving some great price cuts right now.. I saw a new H2 SUT on the lot with $59.9K on the sticker and $45K painted on the front window.. On top of that 72m@0%...
Just for the sake of apples to apples.. I'm getting between 12 and 13mpg in my H3 right now.. I've running 35" tires and have a roof rack with lights, plus lights on the front end.. You'd think that screwing up to aerodynamics of a brick would be hard, but you add some stuff sticking up on top and out up front and it does change things.. I was getting about 18 - 19 MPG when I first got the truck..
From bone stock to equally equiped, what are FJs getting in the MPG dept..??
BTW.. There's rumors flying right now that AM General is interested in buying the Hummer line.. Makes sense due to the fact the H2 is built at a AM General plant..
However, The H2 has been dropped for the 2009 year. Local dealer has a load of H3Ts coming in next week I believe, and most of them are already spoken for..

That's interesting.. My first choice was the FJ, but I couldn't get anyone at the dealer to give me the time of day.. And the only one they had on the lot was 2WD.. So I walked..
That's one of the things I like about the H3.. Ya ain't gotta lift the tail and look between the legs to see if it's a 4wd or not..

Mine, automatic 4x4 when stock with a roof rack and even after I added my FabFours front bumper was getting 17mpg average with a pretty decent mix of off-road, city and highway driving. All highway I could get up to 20-21mpg. Going to and coming back from Ouray my dad's 4x4 automatic with roof rack managed 25mpg in one leg but that was drafting our big truck that was pulling the yellow FJ.
Now, once I put my Tuffy roof box on and Revtek 3" lift, my mileage went down to around 14-15mpg where I used to get 17mpg. All freeway runs about the same, the roof box creates a pretty big wind issue.
All in all the FJ gets surprisingly good gas mileage for what it is, especially the automatic 4x4s with the 2wd mode (the main reason I went with the automatic). The FJ's coefficient of drag is surprisingly low for such a brick-like vehicle.

token you hit it right that's exactly what the coverage was about is GM is trying to figure out how to get out of the Hummer market and still save face because of all the dealer problems it is going to create. It's funny they showed a clip of Arnold Schwargenazer (spelled that wrong i guess) from like a year ago standing beside a hummer and he said i want 2 of them, I dont think they care about the public in general they just want to figure out how to do it and save face!

Ah.. 2wd mode, that's gotta make a difference.. How I don't know, but I've heard the H3s "all 4wd all the time" does a good bit to cut into the MPG..
I'd considered looking for a GM Colorado or Canyon transfer case and see if it would make a difference. I'm betting the $1000+ I'd pay for the transfer case would buy a whole lot of gas for the maybe 2mpg increase I might find.. Would rather save that money for a nice transfer case like an Atlas II w/ a 5.3:1 crawl..

not that i care about the hummer series of trucks or be sad to see them go( hell they got rid of the camaro didnt they) , and even if they do discontinue the FJ ( here it comes) I wouldn't be sad as I already have one and I love it

The H3 was actually my first choice, but i couldn't even get a salesman to come out and help me. i thought, either they think i look like i can't afford anything so why waste time, or they are too luxury to go to customers, therefore they wait for customers to come in and beg them to make a purchase. it's funny, people tend to complain about pushy cars salesmen and how they hover over you is a bit annoying, but at the same time, when you go to a dealer where you have to go find a salesman, you find yourself complaining about them too...lol. anyways, i really like the H3 but the dealership turned me off as well as some observations of road rage from a few H2 owners (turned me away from the name for a long time)...i witnessed one H2 driver get pissed while leaving a football game because the van in front was too slow in moving in stop and go traffic. he ended up tagging the van in the rear on purpose and then got out of his H2 (huge workout-for-4-hours-a-day looking dude) and walked up to the guy in the van and started yelling at him and then spit at him. i had no idea who either party was, but i was so pissed about that, i wanted to run over and throw a brick onto his nice chromed out H2 and then run like a sissy. anyways, i know not all Hummer owners are like that and that it is all the driver and not the vehicle, but i guess he fit the stereotype to a T and it stuck with me for a while. anyways, back to the H3...really like it! i also considered the Rubicon Unlimited, but have already owned a Wrangler before and wanted to try something new. i am really happy i bought the FJ...i like it more and more everyday. It's not indestructible by any means, but nothing is. I am really eager to check out the H4 when that comes out. sorry for the round-a-bout post.
