I love my FJ Cruiser. '07 4X4 with a 6" lift, 33" KM2s, HID off and on road lighting, all sort of great little mods.
I love my FJ so much that I could not dare subject it to the salt and sand of a gulf coast beach, not just because it's wicked to clean up but because you can never really stop corrosion.
Enter my new toy. I bought this thing after hours and hour of research. I got it sight unseen from Ohio, it was in semi-restored condition. It made it 21 hours and 1200 miles from Sandusky, OH to Houston, TX.
I had it registered with Texas plates the day I got back, no hassles.
This is a 1971 Kaiser Jeep M35A2 Deuce and a Half 6x6 Cargo Truck. 7.6~ liter "C" turbocharged inline-6 multifuel diesel. Gets about 10mpg max speed of 70mph, runs anything from used motor oil to jet fuel.
It has a 8x12 Cargo box, carrying 10,000lbs on highway or 5,000lbs offroad on 46" super-single tires. No power-steering, no a/c, manual 5-speed transmission, 2 speed transfer case, air disengaged front axle. Everything works, there is limited rust and limited leaks for a 38 year old truck.
First mods were a couple of cup holders from wal-mart, 24v license plate lights, an improvised turn single module to replace the nonfunctional military one, a 900w power inverter, and a boombox strapped to the old fire extinguisher mount (cant hear it over the turbo on the highway, haha).
Next mods will be air-o-matic steering assist and the dual master cylinder braking system from an M35A3 for safety.
That's what I'm talking about!!! I put alot of drive time in a deuce and when I left the service my boss bought one for his construction company. I used it to pull all the subs out of the sugar sand around the various construction sites as they would always get stuck. I sure wish I had the land and the need for one, so many good memories behind the wheel

Awesome find and it looks great. If I had known about it, being in Ohio and all, I would've snagged it. Mind if I ask what you had to give for it ?
That would make a mighty wicked tow vehicle for my portable sawmill. I could go deep into a woods, winch out some logs, saw them up, and emerge from the woods with a big load of lumber and sawmill in tow.

I spent less than 7k on it. They aren't expensive, less than a nice atv or jetski, twice the fun. I just added a half-ton crane on the back of it that stows under the troop seats fairly well. I got it to lift my generator up.

I think I have seen your FJ near Humble .
I sometimes go to IAH to pick someone up or fly out, or use the northern I-45 Fry's thats about as much time as I spend near Humble. You're more likely to see me around webster as my paintball team has meetings in Santa Fe and we go eat at Bay Area Blvd.
Everyone wants a lifted black fj with the arb+winch so I'm not exactly unique.

I just took it to the beach the first time yesterday, it was rough riding but the soft stuff didn't seem to bother it too much. I'da like to get an adapter for the glad hands to power an air chuck off the emergency one. That way I can air down the tires and let the air system fill it back up afterwards.
Nice huge play toy. My fire dept has two for woods/brush fire use. One is the 2 1/2 like yours and the other is a 5 ton. I like the 5 a little better because of the power brakes and steering.
They will go anywhere. We just point them into the woods and drive. Ive pushed over decent size trees with the 5 ton. Only problem is if we get stuck the only thing that can get us out is the forestry dozer.

You start out at knowing nothing, go to knowing something, progress to knowing a lot, maybe come close to thinking you know everything, and then slowly start to slide down as you realize more and more you know less and less of what you thought you knew. And that is probably the place you want to end up. -Street Watch
Dang thats so cool... so how does it drive on the beach??
It'll idle it's way through the soft stuff but drives like it has square wheels on the bumpy stuff. Hauls my generator and all my camping gear with room inside to set up a small tent with a/c.

I almost bought one of those 6 months ago...just didn't know where to park it They are awesome and cheaper then pinzgauers..enjoy
This thing oddly only takes up a single parking spot at a store or at home. I can fit our BMW 635 and VW Golf in the garage, the FJ and deuce on one side of the driveway, and the F-250 and my girlfriends mazda on the other side, with no vehicles entering the sidewalk. Sometimes I stick the FJ in the backyard with the boat, jetski and utility trailers, it's hard to enter the roadway with the deuces lack of power steering and the FJ is sometimes in the way on the way of the road.

Surfside Beach VFD has a deuce with a plastic water tank in the back of it, probably for dune fires, where there is no village water. I would hate to get this thing stuck, as that means pricy tow bill.... Or I have to call someone else out who has an M35. A local guy taught my how to drive and maintain them.
