FJ80 front drive shaft issue

I just bought a '92 FJ80 and I noticed it has some play at the front drive shaft when puting in gear (Drive). While driving when I release the foot from the accelerator and press it again rapidly, I feel like a "pull" from the front drive shaft. The rear shaft is ok, but the issue is about the front drive shat with the excessive play. What could be the problem and how can I resolve it?

thanx a lot. My bad luck is always stalking me. What I was hoping for a good day with the new acquisition, it ended with doubts a worries about it.

Seems like your U-Joints may be bad.

Re: FJ80 front drive shaft issue

u joints may have too much slop from being worn, possible a bad gear set. could be bad splines on the axle shafts, etc... tons of things it could be. those are all things you would feel through the driveline. is it a cv driveline?

Re: FJ80 front drive shaft issue

FJ80's (A440F transmission & center diff) are well-known for having slop in the driveline. Usually you can feel/hear it more in the rear. Check the u-joints and grease the slip yokes as others have said, but if those are OK I wouldn't worry about it too much. My '91 is still going strong on all the original u-joints and drive line at 250,000 miles.

Negative, the FJ80 has solid front axles and a straight drive shaft with u-joints.

Re: FJ80 front drive shaft issue

Sounds like u-joints then; is there up and down play if you try to push the drive shaft straight up?
