Re: Another damn Hummer thread

Living in central NC is a bummer. Nothing much to do here as far as off-roading. Uwharrie is close by but I haven't taken the time to check it out. We usually drive to the mountains where a friend lives and he takes us on some trails there. I don't look down on anyone who takes it to the trails no matter what they drive. I went wheeling with a group of Subaru Forester owners last fall and hit a trail where only 3 of us dared to go. It was a friend of mine driving his 4runner, one guy with his Forester, and myself in my FJ. That Subaru went through everything we did without missing a beat. Every time I thought he was going to get stuck he pulled right on through without a slip. I used to own a forester myself but mine was setup for the track so it never hit the trails except for some gravel. I think most of the people that get criticized about their vehicle are those with little to no experience of road and they get their rig stuck or teeter tottering on a mound of dirt/sand. As for myself, I don't have a great deal of experience but I am learning from this forum and others. It is great to know there are others out there like yourself RuggedH2 that could care less what rig a person drives and just enjoy the wheeling.

Re: Another damn Hummer thread

Well hey man..... good that you tackled that trail......

I don't know about the Forester really being able to tackle many 4x4 trails..... but I see the point.......the dude is out there "wheelin'".

As long as he's not the Subaru type that thinks the trails should be closed to all motorized vehicles...and bicycles...and horses.....etc.etc.

These land of no use types drive me crazy.

Thanks man.....

I remember looking at pics of some of your collection of battle rifles.......I don't remember where or which forum..... but very, very nice by the way.

I thought I had a lot tied up (and I do)... but not as much as you.

I love my XCR... what do you think of yours?
Love both of them. I'm picking up my CLEO signoff paperwork today to send one of them (and another AR lower) off for SBR tax stamps.

I'm waiting (impatiently) for the new XCR-M in .308. I have a really nice POF P-308, but I'd still love to get the M.

The XCR is just a super robust, simple design that is very ergonomic and just plain works. I'd like to see a CHF or Mike Rock bbl to increase the accuracy, but the factory bbl is just as accurate as most factory (short of high end guns like POF, LWRCI, Noveske, LaRue, etc) AR rifles.

I'm also waiting to see what happens with the new stock, and ambi mag release as well as upgraded bolt catch. A lot of good things on the horizon from RA....including the sexy PDW. Not sure I'll get a PDW though....at 9" bbl length, I can't justify it for a .223/5.56 round, but for 6.8 or 7.62x39, it might be a great set up.

I'm still waiting to pick up another 6.8 bbl (got one SPC II, 1:10 twist, 4 groove for the SBR) with the new 1:11 twist.

Then there's the .22LR conversion bbl/bolt.....can't wait to get my hands on that too.

In short, I love the platform. It's the most exciting one to come out (and actually be available unlike the Masada/ACR) in quite a while.

For the money, it's damn hard to beat.

Re: Another damn Hummer thread

When I ordered mine the two guys I went with both opted for the SBR.

I'm an old school jarhead A2 dude so I just added the heavy barrel. I did get the new trigger group and I'm really glad I did.

The system provides all the reliability of my AK with the accuracy of either of my AR's.....

Every time I go down there (the place is right down from my house......Alex comes out and speaks with me personally.) Last time he brought out the prototypes for several designs including the PDW...

I've been reading and speaking to some people about the shift in dignitary protection from handguns to short (discreet) long guns.

Re: Another damn Hummer thread

Ya, I opted for a Bill Springfield single stage trigger job on both rather than the new 2 stage.......the new triggers are fairly expensive comparatively, and I prefer the single stage.

The only thing it needs is a better stock....I ended up making a cheek riser for one of the rifles that uses Troy BUIS and a standard AR height QD GG&G mount for my Leupold 1.5-5X illuminated reticle optic. The current one is extremely positive in lockup and very sturdy....but it's ugly and lacks a cheek riser height adjustment or LOP.... the new one will correct that though.

The other one, I ended up putting HK diopters and the lower height mount LaRue with a T1.....solely b/c the stock is too low in relation to the top rail. The new stock will fix that though.

Since you've been by the shop, have you checked out the new stock or the M in person? Supposedly, some of the guys going by the shop get to see the new stuff first.

Yep.

Alex is a cool guy and he loves to show off the latest and greatest... and he is proud of what they are working on.

You are gonna love his new ideas for stocks and where he is going with that.

Cool. I can't wait.....only thing that sucks is that I'm betting the new stock with be at least $250.
