In about two years, I'll be giving my FJ to my father who will be using it at the beach. I've always wanted to own a muscle car, and it's down to these two. The Dodge Challenger SRT8 or R\T, or the Camaro SS.
I went to see the Challenger in person and woah, pictures do not do it justice, it is one BIG car, and is totally retro-muscle, LOVE it, just under-powered compared to the Camaro. The Camaro, has sleek looks, and better performance, but definantly dosen't mantain the "muscle" look that the Challenger has. On top of that, the STR-8 version that competes with the Camaro SS, starts at 40,000$, where as the Camaro SS, starts at 33,000, with a even more power engine, and better brakes.
Neither - Mustang. Less power but lighter weight, cheaper and better built. Put a Edelbrock or Rousch supercharger on it and it will run circles around both.
I'm a shelby guy but I would go with the challenger, although the Camaro is cheaper, The Challenger just looks better, the back of the new Camaro has a lipstick look because of the taillights.

I'm with the guys above. The Mustang is still sweet but I'd pick the Challenger before the Camaro. I've said it before and I'll say it again, the Camaro looks like the designers just added a little of this . . . .
and a lot of this . . . .
then shoved it in the oven and pulled it out after only half the time elapsed resulting in this half-baked fugly-mobile . . . .
IMO.
PS- I was at the Indy 500 again this year and still thought they looked ugly even as the pace car.

How is the Mustang better built? Is there any evidence to support this at all? My only issue with the Challenger, is that it's around 300lbs heavier, and you have to pay an extra 10k on starting price to get close to the Camaro SS's power. I.E. The Camaro SS comes with a 6.2l 426 HP 6-Speed Manual, Challenger STR-8 @ 40,000$ comes with a 425 6.1l V-8 Hemi, manual is an extra 1,000$ and you need manual to bypass the gas guzzler tax.
Off the bat, the Camaro is clearly the "best buy" as the Challenger gets whooped in every situation, handling, etc. Mustang isn't even a choice for me, I know it's a good car...but it just dosen't have as much horse power as I'd want, I'd have to go for the Shelby GT-500 which is out of the question.
Superchargers..well no kidding, the most recent super chargers for the Camaro and Challenger STR8 put them around a astonishing 650-700HP, I don't plan to add a super charger to my vehicle, I want it as fast as it can be, out of the shop, Ford doesn't deliver with their normal model mustangs.
I will say, once again, Challenger is the best looking, I'd go Challenger\Camaro\Mustang on looks, Camaro looks beasty on the front, and ?? on the back :P, performance though, it's clearly Camaro\Mustang\Challenger, which is an issue...do you go for performance..or looks on a car? I guess it comes down to the individual...and is a Hemi V-8 as reliable as the Camaro SS's 6.2l corvette engine? I've always heard bad things about hemis...
Another thing is the times of course, I want a fast car...Camaro SS is at a recorded 4.6 0-60, Challenger STR-8 (once again, 10,000$ more) is at 5.6 seconds (though Dodge claims less, nobody has been able to nail it) Mustang..I'm not sure, I know it's slower than the Camaro, but faster than the Challenger due to the Challengers massive weight
Here's a nice drag between the Camaro and the Challenger, gotta love those sounds
Test drive all those gussied up family cars, then get yourself in a new Corvette. Lot of car for the money compared to a Mental Challenger or Slomaro.
I'm sure a Corvette is better...but with the Camaro having the same engine, brakes, and so on...it's a bit hard to fork out the cash for one. And the Challenger, and Camaro, as most defiantly not family cars...have you even seen the back seats of one? :P
Fact is, off the bat, the Camaro is basically as fast as the base corvette, so imagine what you could do with that extra 20,000$ you saved in terms of engine modifications, suspension mods..and so forth, after all that..yeah...
Where did you get the "Slomaro" from? I almost feel like you didn't study anything on the cars before posting...other wise you would know how fast they both are...and you'd also know that the Corvette, and the Camaro SS, share the exact same engine, the LS3.
