Hill climb from sunday. BFG AT's FAILED , D*ck Cepek FC-11's MADE IT , BFG MT's MADE IT .
Really? You sure it wasn't A-TRAC or Locker set up or hack? As in one used locker and not A-TRAC or other way around? Or maybe driver ability? Looks like the Voodoo (sorry not sure who that was) with the Demello bumper didn't make it on the first try, but did on the second. Looks like he carried quite a bit more speed on the second try, and it looks as though the first guy that didn't make it was barely moving. In my experience you have to have a fair bit of forward momentem no matter what tires you have if you're gonna' play in the mud, especially when it's uphill

Actually, im sure my bfg's would have made it fine. I was 2nd to last in line and a Taco went in front of me and spun his wheels 2-3 times before I tried going up. Then I tried going up in 4hi and 4 low and couldn't make it. I had my tires at 32psi also. I also didn't use A-trac or the rear locker. With the other hills I took that day I know if I used the a-trac or rear locker on either one I would have made it easily. Heck, if I had aired down I would have been fine probably. When you come from vehicles not having these advantages it's hard to remember to use them. But I wasn't in any of the video's posted.

No winch damper?

Edit. Great photos and videos. No winch damper? I'm glad the cable didn't fail in the "Hill Climb" video or somebody might have been cut in half. You really should pick one up or throw a sandbag or something over the cable when winching.

Just my .02

We had a blast. I put quite a few battle scratches on her though. I'm actually gettin ready to go out and buff it to see what I can do. The FJ is truly a well made machine as I found out for myself. The pics don't do justice to the roughness of some of the hills etc. Good Times.
Looks like you guys/gals had a blast. How far is Harlan from Smith Mountain Lake? I'm going to be down there begining of June on vacation and wouldn't mind a couple day's of wheelin.

Re: Harlan Pics

Nice pics Yoda, looks like a must stop when looking for an extended trip. A bunch from NC went out but I couldn't get the time away. Hope to make a trip out there this summer...

Yes you should of made this hill from saturday , the 1 before the overlook. I know both Fred ( the vodoo blue in the video ) and myself only used 4lo. We did the same hill on sunday and niether of the fj's running BFG's could get up it . I did use the locker on sunday just to be on the safe side. The hill from sunday in the other video the fj running BFG's could not even get up the first 10 feet . Yes some is driving skills and knowledge but i spent 2 days following BFG's and they do not self clean in the mud .These hills are alot steaper than they look and where it took the BFG's a couple of tries to get up certain hills it took my Cepek's 1 and in most cases i was only in 4lo. If anyone wishes to debate wheter or not the Cepek FC=11's are better than the BFG's i will glady do so . I also think Matt was the only 1 with the a-trac locker hack , but i don't know if he used it. Hopefully the guys running the bfg's will step up and say the Cepek's out performed them. I'm just trying to help those who have not purchased tires yet . I also understand sticking by your purchase but my Cepek's rule for a all-terrain tire. Enjoy the video .

I agree...the VERY first climb I did...MattFJ07 can testify...I forgot to use anything but 4x4. I went back and tried the climb again with the FJ's secret weapons...and still could not pull it...but alas....this was the only time I could not make any of the pulls. It was the only time when TIRES were the main factor for not making it up.

The short little hill I could not make is the one above in the VID. You pass through a large mud hole just before you take a hard right up the hill....the stock Duellers just dont have time to clean themselves before needing traction.

Garsgrl....did you redeem yourself on that hill?? You had BFG's right??
