Old goat/Mtn goat

Took a little run up Cowiche Mill Rd to Jump off Joes. Its an old fire lookout west of Tieton/Cowiche, WA. Just wanted to take my 92 year old dad for a ride in the FJ. He spent his youth running around these mtn's in a model T.
Camping and hiking, even skiing. Actually built a rope tow over on Bald Mtn.
Its a real treat to get him some place he never thought he'd be again.

We kept running into areas where drifted snow made roads unpassable.
What you don't see is the 100' drop off on the left and the 2' wide path behind me.

So we cruised around and found a short cut to the ridge road. I had tried this before in a Tahoe, didn't even get started up the hill.
I had scoped out the road from below and determined it to have southern exposure and likely no snow. Wrong!

This is the road at the top of the climb. Around a corner behind me the road moves into the trees and lots of snow. I know a pic would have been nice!!

This is where we came up. Why does it never look as steep in pictures. Trust me you would have real trouble walking up or down. I am amazed the FJ did it so well and easily. But thats why we bought'em!

This is about halfway down, where it leveled out some. Right after an off camber turn on loose rock. Pucker level very high.

Dad seems to be having a good time.

Back safe at the bottom. You can see the start of the trail over the FJ.
At the crest the trail turns fright up the hill to the road, about 1/4 mile.

This is at the 1st crest lokking up. The road and trail connect at the left side of the bare area near the top.

Anyway scarry run up this hill. Never should have done it. Problem was once started no way to back down. But the FJ mountain goat that she is handled it no problem. Won't do this section again with out back up.
Bonus Dad (the old goat) and Mary loved it and didn't worry for a minute.

Re: Old goat/Mtn goat

really nice post you have to take those links that you put up, and put them in with the image button (the one with the mountain/sun).

Or...you can go in and edit what you have...and put "" at the end of each link...

Re: Old goat/Mtn goat

Try eliminating the spaces from the end of the name, just before the dot-jpg. Never mind, they already have underscores and I didn't see them because of the link underlining.
