Finally got the FJ stuck... grrrr **Warning high pic count **

Ok show I'm gonna share my shame in an effort to stop myself from doing it again in the future....

I packed up 3 of my kids and our dog to go for a ride into one of our provincial forests to check out the fire roads and the state of the logging trails. I thought I could get some gps numbers incase others are interested in this part of the world. Anyway, we were tooling around on some of the trails when we came to one that is usually tough to get past the entrance but is then usually interesting for spotting wildlife etc.

So, I came to the first problem... I large pond that I couldn't judge the bottom of using a big stick. I (stupidly) thought I would just edge the front of my truck in to see how much it sinks and to determine if there was firm footing under the water. At first it felt ok but after about 2 feet the front right started dropping noticably so I slowed to 0 and waited to feel the stabilty of the truck. It was still dropping so I went to reverse out but the truck chewed into the peat bog quickly and made backing out impossible.

We were by outselves (what an idiot I am sometimes!!) so we all walked back out to the fire road to see if someone might drive by that could give us a tug to get us started. After about 30 minutes, a GMC 4x4 pickup came by and they agreed to give it a go. They tried for about 20 minutes but even with 10 and 15 foot runs the tug strap wasn't even budging my truck. The went and got their kids that were camping in the area to get them to bring their 4x4 down to help. We tried having their Ford 4x4 do the same tug recovery but no luck. We even managed to snap my tug strap without my truck having moved an inch. As a last ditch effort they hooked up one p/u onto the other and then onto me. We tried for about 5 minutes but were having problems getting the timing right and weren't getting good results but we then hit on one good dug that got my wheels up and out of their pocket so that the MTRs could get ahold of some real mud instead of this peat cr@p. I hammered it and dug a good trench backwards until I was safely out. I owed those two pickups and their crews a BIG thank-you. Good thing all the women in the group were all married or I would have probably proposed as a result of my jubilent state.

Wheeling alone sux... I gotta stop doing it!! My next wife better have an FJ that she wheels!!

If you wanna get to this location, it's gps co-ords are:
N49.66836deg
w96.27809deg

Here's some of the pics from my brain f@rt....

My rescuers...

Home sweet home!!!

Sheesh!!! I have no idea what goes on in my head sometimes... I'm thinking there must be alot of idle time up there!

A good day out with the family. That's wealth.

I bet the kids had a blast and have a story to tell. That kind of day is what life long memories are about for the kids.

If they're smart they'll learn to never let you live it down.....!

I manage myself to get stuck on a worse situtaion.. pretty much just like you but.. the whole car... you could only see the top of the tires like your front's... yeah.. I did a whole lotta digging.. I had my buddies F-350 try to pull me out.. not even the V8 Turbo diesel could pull me out.... I was stuck on some clayish oily mud.. it sucked..

I wish it was something that they thought was 'new' for them... I used to get us stuck pretty good in our Land Rover on a regular basis as I would go places that were just plain stupid. The funny thing about this truck is that the kids didn't seem to think much of being stuck because the sat in the truck most of the time watching DVDs.

I think they have WAY TOO many 'dad got us stuck again' stories... they don't even phase their friends with them now.
