Re: Maxing out the FJ, let's see what she can tow

Tell us more about the MR2! I always wanted one of those, but I heard about the headgasket problems they had and went with a Honda for a long time. Nothing like a rwd turbo though!

Re: Maxing out the FJ, let's see what she can tow

23 ft TT, we were test driving it to see if the FJ could pull it or not, we ended up not buying it, but ther FJ pulled it like a sport on our test drive

Redlyne, if you position the MR2 a little further back on the trailer, the tongue load will not be near as much, therefore you will not get near as much sag in the rear end (remember the hitches are class III therefore should not exceed 500lbs)
I have seen what happens when the trailer is more heavy than the tow vehicle, when it tries to stop it just keeps on going (even with trailer brakes)

exactly. not to mention sway when too much of the weight is forward or the trailer isnt loaded properly. also, for people considering toy haulers. the problem isnt the weight of the trailer empty. its when you are heading out with a fully loaded trailer. and for those of us heading to the mountains, the FJ will lack the power to tow it well. also, if weight isnt an issue, its the sheer size of the aide of the trailer. in windy areas, it will kick your FJ around so bad.

i have a 16ft tpd race trailer, 16 ft box plus the nose. it seriously can man handle my half ton F150. i wouldnt even consider towing it with the FJ. i have been towing for as long as i have been behind the wheel. whether it be the boat, race trailer, or cargo trailers that we have. if i ever buy a vehicle just for towing, or if i ever buy any larger trailers than i have now, i will be pulling it with at least a 3/4 ton turbo diesel.

Re: Maxing out the FJ, let's see what she can tow

Towing was more of a challenge for the driver than the FJC. It was my first time towing anything. In that same weekend in Big Bear, I saw an FJ towing two jet skis. Looked like fun.
