Revisiting the Concept.

I was just thinking about how exciting it was to see the pics of the FJ Cruiser concept on Toyota's website way back when, and remembering all the things about it that I was the most stoked about.

One of them was this:

Remember how the seats were all four gonna lay completely flat to make a big platform in there. You could sleep in it! Why oh why did this not come to fruition???

And remember this cool GPS in the center that would pop out and you could carry it with you, like for hiking or finding Macy's when you're lost in the mall? (j/k!)

It was so different on the inside!

All metal, like the old jeeps and FJs, kinda cool, huh?

And the funky tires, never seen anything like it!

BUT ALAS, although there are a few things in the concept that I wish were in ours, I still love the little bugger just the way it is. And that's all I've got to say about that... (maybe)

I never noticed the shocks on the seat before... super cool! My enormous butt sure wouldn't mind that!

Ya I remember those early pics. I started getting my ducks in a row then, was thinking of a Wrangler, but followed the FJ progress. Then I finally saw one and bought it.

Noticed the work light by the winch in the pic.

Re: Revisiting the Concept.

I absolutely love that interior. I keep trying to think of ways to dress up the big drab cave they gave us, but so far no luck. The metal on the doors and floor is sorely missed. That interior was so useful and innovative, and they stick us with an $8/hr I work at Wal Mart interior. (yes, Im big on interiors)

Can't see those seats being anything but brutal (even with the shocks - lol - would like to see how that worked in the real world), and a 3 spd auto? I find the dash trim, frankly, gawdy. And, hey, I've owned nothing but jeeps before, so my 08 FJ interior is practically five star in comparison (and I find it generally of high quality). You make a good point re: the utility, ad innovation though.

Re: Revisiting the Concept.

I was at TLC of Van Nuys the other day.

They had a FJ Cruiser coffee book! I had no idea. I didn't have time to read it but they showed the originally approved concept sketches of the FJC before the photos in this thread. It was pretty cool.

I wonder if Amazon has that book.
